We had lunch there on a Wednesday afternoon.
We parked a little over a block away. Free street parking. I could see if it was busy parking could be a problem. As far as I know I don’t’ think the restaurant offers parking?
The restaurant is located in a hotel, on the bottom two floors. The first floor was closed. The lower floor has a small bar area with an outdoor terrace right on Lake Mendota.
There were one or two open tables but the receptionist said either they were holding them for reservations or something about the waitress was slammed earlier and taking a break? She said we could wait 15 min or take a table in the bar area. It was such a nice weather day that we decided to wait. In less than 10 minutes she ended up giving us one of the tables that was originally open.
My wife had a Blue Moon beer which she said was super cold and very good.
We ordered some chips and salsa and enjoyed the excellent view.
There were about 2 or 3 birds which took an interest in our chips and were annoying, but what do you expect being outside.
The chips and salsa were ok. They advertised the chips were made in-house. I thought they needed more salt and could be a bit crisper. I enjoyed that the salsa was pureed, but we both agreed it was a bit bland.
My wife had the shrimp roll with chips. I had the cheeseburger with up- charged $2 fries.
She said her sandwich was good but could use less cucumbers and more shrimp but would get it again.
I ordered my cheeseburger plain with just cheese. It was done medium which I prefer. The patty was thicker than normal but a bit smaller than the bun.
It appeared they attempted to toast the bun but it was not crisp. It was ok but would try something different next time. The fries were a bit underdone and semi warm. Would not get them again.
I would go back again to enjoy the outstanding view.
Adding to the culinary delight were the excellent views from the patio. Dining with such a picturesque waterfront backdrop truly elevated the entire meal. It’s the perfect spot to relax and soak in the atmosphere while savoring your food.
Finally, the fast service was a welcome surprise. Our server was attentive and efficient, ensuring we had everything we needed without feeling rushed. This made for a seamless and pleasant dining experience.
For a delicious and fresh seafood lunch with great views and prompt service, the Boathouse Restaurant is an excellent choice and highly recommended.
The server was wonderful, extremely kind and helpful. The Wisco burger was delicious, I devoured it quickly, the bacon jam was drippy but complimented the cheese well. All of my group members enjoyed their dishes.
You have to walk down quite a bit of stairs to reach this restaurant. Bathrooms are located right outside the restaurant when you enter, they are very clean.
Our server was very friendly and helpful with the menu. The cheese curds and chicken salad sandwich were my favorites, and of course the always-tasty truffle fries! The curds had a nice crunchy texture. The fries were crunchy with just the right amount of parmigiana and truffle seasoning…. Mmmm. The chicken salad had chunks of fresh tasting chicken with the right amount of crunch added by the celery and apple. The nutty texture of the walnuts helps to round out the sandwich’s taste.
Overall, I liked the food, and I LOVED the view. I wonder if you could just take you food down to the adjacent dock and relax in the Adirondack chairs there? I guess I’ll find out, on my next visit.
