In late fall of 2019, Chef Josh Taillon and his wife Alicia, both native Madridians and life-long food service professionals, purchased an unassuming residential property in their hometown of Madrid NY. Over the course of the following year, with the help of many area contractors, specialty craftsmen, friends and family, they have labored tirelessly to create the space of their dreams; The Blue House.

We were really excited to try TBH. Im not sure if they were just having an off night but we left very disappointed. I would have loved to discuss it with our server but sadly he never did check on us. I had to ask for the check and I was expecting him to ask us how our meal was so I could give my personal feed back. Instead he seemed annoyed, gave us the card reader and walked away to get boxes. He didnt ask to refill our drinks. The only time he came over to the table was to take our order and drop off food.
We decided to focus on sushi tonight as it is a huge part of their menu. It changes weekly which im always engaging on Facebook because I love supporting my community .
In my honest opinion . The sushi was pretty bad. The crab sushi had a very strong ammonia aroma, I didnt even finish or bring it home it smelled off. The shrimp tempura we ordered tasted like chicken for some reason. It didnt seem like a true tempura batter. I love lox, and I just didnt love the cream cheese that was in it, it was over powering even the beet cured salmon. The puffball was ok. Its mushroom so it shrinks quiet a bit when cooked and you can see in the photo it was basically breading.
I dont think I will order the sushi again but I am eager to return and try their appetizers and main dishes.

This place is so cute! The vibe is great and the staff are amazing. The food is definitely pretty well sized that you can slit a pizza for two and be full. We also got the beef sushi with garlic chili fries and it was very good as well. I really wanted to try the duck sauce fries too definitely worth the trip

Everything about my partner and I’s visit to The Blue House was great. The food was incredible, particularly the homemade bread from the crab Rangoon dip, and the rainbow trout roll. The menu changes weekly, but it seems certain things like pizzas and sushi rolls are consistent. The atmosphere was nice, the restaurant was so genuinely cool. And finally, the service was excellent, and I have to give a shout out to our server. Not only was he accommodating and nice, he was very genuine when talking to my partner and I! …and then he mentions he’s the chef and owner!!! He’s been doing serving to get to know the customers more, and to interact with this community he loves so much. He takes about how everything is locally sourced because of all of the talent and resources in the north country, and listening to his passion made an already great experience even better. We’ll be back!! <3

We went to the Blue House in Madrid and it lives up to its reputation. Kung pao cauliflower was a standout. Crispy with a little heat and really well executed. The Peppy One pizza was legit. Great crust and not overloaded. The spicy crab sushi roll was fresh and actually had flavor, not just filler. But the move is the POOR MANS PUDDING for dessert. Do not leave without it. It sounds simple but it is ridiculously good. Drinks were solid across the board. Mocktails felt intentional, not like an afterthought. Josh and Andrew were great. Super welcoming and just fun to be around. They made the whole dinner feel relaxed (We ate at the bar). For Madrid, this is a surprise in the best way. Easily the best meal I’ve had up here.

FOLKS!! This place is a MUST!! Stop looking anywhere else for a phenomenal meal & a top notch customer experience! This is your place! My son and my friend went for brunch. Upon entering we were greeted with a smiling, cheerful hostess. She seated us and we were served throughout the courses by at least 3 additional waitstaff members- all of which were delightful and catering to us as if we were the only guests in the place! The fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious. The coffee was poured in an oversized mug and was compliments of a local coffee maker in Potsdam, NY. Kudos to GOOD COFFEE! Our apps & meals were wow’ing and unlike anything else in the North Country. Every aspect was on point. We will be back! Thank you for going above and beyond to serve us and the community. P.S.– The Chef’s are right there at the exit area to send you off with a warm exit and signs of smile and appreciation. Your Mamas raised you right!!!

Interior is polished rustic. The menu changes weekly. All plates are made with care and beautiful. The food was amazing. New favorite place to eat upscale food (no fried crap food here). Will come back weekly when able. Tell everyone, this couple and their restaurant need to stick around.

Everything is amazing. I can’t believe I have this perfect sushi roll near. I especially admire TBH cooking philosophy of using raw scallion perfectly as a spicy kick.

This is the finest meal you can get in the North Country. Food is fresh, local, menu is ever-changing and interesting, and you can taste the love that goes into the food. It’s mouth art. Comfy atmosphere with a nice view of the Grasse River. Staff are sweet and care about your experience. Good idea to make reservations as other are catching on! Thank you, The Blue House!
Photo below is truffle oil and celery root noodles. It was a delicious, savory, creamy explosion of flavors. Home-made sodas with fresh fruit.

The Blue House exceeded my high expectations this evening. Not only was the food spectacular, but the hospitality, ambiance and service made it an amazing dinner experience.
The wood roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon and cheese curd was the perfect way to start out the meal and the pot roast was so tender it practically fell apart. The essential comfort food for a cold evening!
We also had the beet salad which is always a crowd pleaser, and the Napa cabbage wedge salad that had a nice smokiness to it.
The tempura fried squash was AMAZING, the sauce was sweet and spicy and the crunch of the peanuts!
Thank you to Chef Josh and Alicia, Jenn, Brad, Greg, Mason, and Aiden for the amazing service!
