The best part of this place is the very friendly waitress we’ve had twice in a row now. Their breakfast is delicious, especially their Tiger Bowls. They got that GOOD gravy, its so tasty.

If you like charcoal this may be the place for you. All the food is over cooked and burned . First we order the bacon wrapped figs and hummus. Bacon is very hard to mess up. as a matter of fact, there’s only one way you can mess it up, You can burn it and they did. The hummus was ok but it has a strong lemon flavor, not my favorite but someone may like it. Let it be known that this was the only edible food offered. My wife ordered the black bean burger, it was black that is for sure. I ordered the classic patty melt and its was….. you guessed it charcoal black. I am not picky we really tried to eat it and we both got sick and vomited because of it. They do not clean the fryer and everything burns because of it. The service was forgettable as in they seemed to forget about us. Not bad but definitely, not good.
Everything tastes like greasy charcoal.

Today was not a good day for The Blue Chair. I used to go there with friends a few years back, so I met my kids there for lunch. We seated ourselves outside. The kids were told to go from the lounge part to the other part to put in an order, and then told someone would come to our table outside. After watching the tables at the adjoining patio get waited on, I headed for the restroom and I asked if the waiter was coming to us next. He said he was not coming up and to just tell our orders, so I ordered our food and had everyone yell their orders down (from maybe 15-20 feet away).
The food eventually came, but no silverware. After waiting several minutes for that, my daughter went and found some.
Several bites in, my son started gagging. He spit out his food and there was something blue in it- a chip from the bowl! We asked for a new bowl and they said there would be a discount.
When the next “bowl” came out, maybe 20 minutes later, he started eating and then SPIT OUT A SCREW! I asked for the manager and was then told they were short staffed that day and that the woman bringing our food was in charge. I informed her about the screw and she made it clear she did NOT believe me. She said they don’t even have screws in the kitchen. She left, angry. I went back to our table.
She came back several minutes later and said she would cover our meals for the day, reiterating they were short staffed.
I thought about that screw all the way back to Nashville. What a weird day. The manager did say she hopes we will come back- but I think we all know that won’t happen.

A few days ago my family and I ate at this quaint little restaurant.
THE FOOD:
We each ordered something different, and we were all very pleased! Good portion sizes, and super tasty. We also purchased a huge rice crispy treat and a delicious cinnamon roll from the cafe- wow, they were perfect!
THE LOCATION:
Super cute street, several quaint shops around, easy parking. The restaurant, has a cafe section next door which is open for breakfast. The cafe has a huge selection of muffins, cookies, pastries, etc. The restaurant has inside and patio seating. Lots of shaded areas in the outside patio, and dog friendly!!
THE STAFF:
The young man who took our orders at the counter was the son of the owner, super friendly, sharp, and accommodating young man! He got our orders right. Our server was great as well. Again, she too was extremely accommodating and very pleasant to deal with. The best thing was getting to meet the owner Jimmy. He spoke with us for a while- what an amazing man- we all just lived his personality and hospitality!! Jimmy visited with all the tables and made everyone feel right at home.
We will be visiting this place again for sure!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking a trip out and stopping by this super fun cafe!

Beautiful day for outside sitting. They messed up my patty melt and put Thousand Island dressing on it that I said I didn’t want it. It was noted on my receipt.
The waitress dropped off our order and left. I noticed the mistake and waited for her to return. I ended up scraping off the dressing and eating my meal cold. All 4 of us where almost done eating when she returned, and explained what was wrong. She apologized and didn’t return for at least another 5-10 minutes later with the bill.

Great friendly family-run, laid back atmosphere. Very welcoming to out of town visitors. There was a small problem with one meal and they took it off the bill without being asked. Everything otherwise was delicious.

Highly disappointed in our experience. We came in early afternoon for lunch and sat in the cafe. We noticed immediately that the place had a lot of character and had a very comfortable feel. The waitress took our drink order and food order quickly and that was the end of the good service. My husband ordered the Nashville hot chicken and I ordered the catfish. I opted for the catfish on a croissant and the menu stated that it came with slaw and the option of tarter sauce or marmalade. I requested tarter sauce. My husband’s plate was delivered to him fairly quickly and I didn’t get my food until at least ten minutes later. It sat in the kitchen window for minutes prior to her bringing it to our table. When the waitress brought my plate out we immediately noticed that my catfish was covered in marmalade and there was no tarter sauce to be found. She said she would be right back with tarter sauce – without me commenting or asking for it, which tells me she knew my order was incorrect. I did not send it back because I was very hungry and did not want to wait for a new plate. While the catfish was cooked perfectly, it was not seasoned and neither was the tiny scoop of cole slaw that was on the sandwich. I did not enjoy the marmalade on my catfish (I know this is a taste preference), it just didn’t work for me. The waitress never came back with my tarter sauce and only came back to leave the check after we finished eating. While I realize it was a little busy, the customer service could have been far better. The waitress was busy having personal conversations with other staff members. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this cafe to dine in. As a side note, I was so irritated once I received my plate that I forgot to snap a picture before eating.

We were very excited to come back to the blue chair as every time we visit sewanee for family we make it a point to stop here. Every time we have been very happy with our time, this time less so. The food was great and coffee pretty good. But the customer service was lacking. The woman at the counter was very patient with our big group helped us with everything. But there was obvious signs of stress most likely form her coworker running around, being rude, and forgetting many orders and names. His customer service was less than desirable.

Absolutely loved this place! Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Serve yourself coffee, which I appreciate. Our meals were delicious and we purchased cookies for later. My husband had the Snickerdoodle and I had the peanut butter. Divine! Best choices in their bakery case I have seen in Tennessee. Incredible place.

We had a great lunch with The family. The kids got a Mac and cheese which was creamy , sharp cheddar delicious. I got the cheese steak which they put A1 sauce on it so be warned if you like that. Next was chicken salad sandwich. The bread was very crunchy and chicken salad was fresh and creamy. Last was the star of the afternoon which was the meat and three chicken pot pie. Crust was amazing and chicken delicious. I would recommend this place. I can not wait to try breakfast.
