Had the pleasure of attending the Valentine’s Day event dinner. The atmosphere was exceptional right off the bat and was maintained throughout the evening. Very welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. Steak cooked to perfection. Staff and management were very professional and checked on us multiple times throughout the evening. Could not have asked for a better experience on such an evening. I would definitely recommend a visit. I will definitely be returning!

Celebrated the best Valentine’s Day of my life with several friends. The timing of the drinks, appetizers, entrees, and deserts allowed everyone time to savor the food and enjoy the special event only seen in high end restaurants I have visited in much larger cities. I actually toured the lower level and observed both sides of the restaurant. Our side enabled a view of the sunset over the river with the other side allowing for a more cozy atmosphere. The overall appearance is one of much history and a blessing to be able to see the architecture of this restaurant. After dinner is a quaint bar where I enjoyed a spectacular Old Fashioned. It was everything I expected of a high end restaurant and fortunately it’s located in a small town on the water.

What an unexpected and delightful surprise we had eating at this restaurant. Being unfamiliar with the area and the River Forest Manor, we never expected to find such an amazing dining experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant was whimsical and inviting. The service was impeccable. But the best part of our experience there was the food! Chef Bobby is a master at what he does. The first night of our stay I ordered the pork chop. I admit, I was expecting it to only be okay – really just hoping it wasn’t over cooked and dry, which has been my experience in so many other restaurants. To my utter delight it was actually the very best pork chop I ever ate! Cooked just right, moist and flavorful – if we weren’t in public I would have picked up the bone and eaten it clean!

I was tempted to order the same thing the next night, but decided on the fried chicken handheld instead. Let me prefaced my review of this by saying that I’m extremely picky when it comes to fried chicken. I’ve been in NC for 3 years and have yet to find some decent fried chicken ( coming from up north I just assumed all the fried chicken down south would be amazing – it is not! ) However, Chef Bobby’s fried chicken is by far the very best I’ve had in my entire life ( with maybe the exception of my mom’s!). It was crispy but not overcooked and the meat was incredibly moist. I would make the four hour ride from our home in Wilmington just to have that fried chicken again!!

So, thank you Chef Bobby for two of the most enjoyable meals I’ve had in my life. You will be seeing us again!!

I recently had dinner at The Bistro at River Forest Manor for Valentine’s Day. The atmosphere, food quality/menu variety, service, and overall environment made for a great evening.

I would highly recommend dining at this restaurant.

I noticed a recent comment regarding a negative experience, and since I was there to personally witness the entire evening, I’ll clarify a few inaccuracies regarding their review:

1. We did not have any delay or long wait times for any of the items we ordered. This includes drinks/water refills, four appetizers, nine entrees, and four desserts. We also did observe minimal wait times for other tables.

2. There was a table of nine sitting right beside their table. Given the table of two appeared to be slightly over 21, should be soberly aware nine humans will be louder than two. Additionaly we all observed and heard the manager ask them if we were too loud twice, and they smiled and politely said “no”. In addition, I personally witnessed individuals at that table ask them as well. The couple perhaps could’ve considered there are two sides in this restaurant. They were in the bar side… which is also considerably smaller.

3. There was a delicious dessert, which I highly recommend, called a “Lemon Possett”, which if pronounced in its proper French pronunciation, may entice a young inexperienced individual without the mature education to potentially “hear” inappropriate jokes from this word. So cheers and praise to the favorite dessert is the reality. If you go to a high end restaurant, have a high end awareness kids.

3. I personally ordered the surf and turf which was brought out around the same time as the other table. Perfectly cooked (rare) with the perfect amount of seasoning to taste the meat. The mashed potatoes were fresh and the skins perfect. That’s what you expect from a high end restaurant. Perhaps Bojangles mashed potatoes and a bottle of ketchup would have been the the other tables preference. Also, all items were available as we even stayed until closed. They didn’t run out from a customer perspective.

In conclusion, I came here to write a simple review to show my genuine gratitude and provide high feedback for a restaurant making great efforts. I will absolutely eat here again and have told friends and colleagues. I did not want to focus on the bad review, but rather draw out the inaccuracies they stated. People work/worked hard in the restaurant and deleriverd it properly. Nailed the customer service and I wanted to make these comments in their defense since I personally witnessed the entire evening before this couple showed up and after they left.

We have docked at River Forest Marina numerous times but until this trip there was never a restaurant onsite. What a lovely, delicious surprise! Shiloh warmly welcomed us and provided great service throughout our meal. I had red snapper, my husband had salmon. Both were beautifully prepared and came with generous vegetables as part of the entree. We ended with eggnog creme brûlée. Wonderful! The restaurant was festively decorated for the holidays — a feast for all the senses. We really enjoyed our dinner here and can hardly wait for our next cruise to Belhaven.

The place is beautiful and perfect for any occasion. I got the shrimp gumbo linguine. It was delicious and I got the Autumn Mojito. I had never been here before, and I would go there again.

This was, without question, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had — especially for a restaurant that markets itself as upscale and charges premium prices.

After being seated, we waited over 10 minutes just for someone to acknowledge us and take our drink order. It then took another 5+ minutes for the drinks to arrive — in a restaurant that was not that busy and had plenty of staff standing around. Our waitress only checked on us a few times the entire night.

The atmosphere was completely unacceptable. A table of about eight adults next to us was so loud that we couldn’t hear each other speak, the waitress, or even the music. At one point they were repeatedly yelling inappropriate phrases across the restaurant. Multiple guests were visibly annoyed. Management did absolutely nothing. When you’re spending $200+ for two people, you expect a respectable environment — not a chaotic bar scene.

It only got worse from there. They were out of the main ingredients for two of their specialty cocktails. After I ordered a glass of wine, they ran out of it after only two pours.

We both ordered the $58 surf & turf — the most expensive entrée offered. For that price, we received four shrimp, under-seasoned steak, and mashed potatoes that were advertised as Yukon Gold but were clearly red potatoes with skins mixed in. The food was bland and underwhelming at best. This was a limited Valentine’s Day menu– how do you run out of featured items?

For a restaurant positioning itself as high-end, this was an embarrassing display of poor management, poor execution, and poor value. When you limit a menu and charge premium prices, the least you can do is deliver on quality and atmosphere.

I was very excited about visiting the bistro, but we will absolutely never return. I would strongly discourage anyone considering this place from wasting their money.
