One of my go-to places for a reasonably priced “special occasion meal” carryout is the Big Greek Cafe in Kensington. On Nicholson Lane, in the little strip below Petsmart and Aldi, this Big Greek Cafe is a hidden gem. I’ve had the falafel platter which is great and comes with fries that are better than most. But what I really like are the specialties, which come with your choice of (2) sides from a generous list of sides. My favorite is the Pastichio, which is Greek lasagna. It’s excellent, and such a generous portion that I’m able to get multiple meals out of it. I usually choose the green beans in tomato sauce and the side salad as my side dishes. Both also come in nice sized portions good enough for sharing or having leftovers. Their spanakopita is the best I’ve had! Though it’s on the Appetizer menu, it isn’t appetizer sized. It is a full-sized piece of spanakopita, complete with a garnish of feta and a couple of black olives on the side. This is something that I reheat in the oven, to maintain its crispness. It’s just as good next day. Oh, and don’t forget to order a side of pita, which is fresh and very flavorful.

I came in with my wife today to try something new and WOW, best greek food i’ve had in the dmv area for sure. Their gyros are like no other, very authentic and fresh taste to them. Service was amazing too, I was greeted the moment I walked in. I had a billion questions and Anderson answered all of them, very professional and nice young man. Can’t wait to be back for that gyros special. Great environment, great staff, great food!

I got a Big Greek Salad to go. It was okay. Not exceptional. The quality of the ingredients were average, especially the lettuce which didn’t taste too fresh. The olives were not pitted. It’s not a good idea to use unpitted olives in a salad. They should be offered in a separate container.

I had an absolutely amazing experience today. From the moment we walked in, Anderson made us feel so welcomed with his friendly and positive energy. He was attentive, personable, and truly made the experience special. The food was incredible I was genuinely happy with every bite. The flavors were so good my taste buds didn’t know what to focus on! Everything came together perfectly, and I left extremely satisfied and smiling.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!! I came in to order some food for me and my daughter and first thing I hear when I walk into the door is a warm welcome. Not only did were the workers kind and attentive to the me and other guests but also on top of if we were having a good time and if we were enjoying ourselves, but just the over all clean dining room , delicious food and great customer service! I definitely recommend coming here with your friend and family if you want a good time and good meal!!!!

Overall great taste of a Greek cousine! Very fresh and delicious looking. In the pictures attached, you can see my takeout order of “Our famous Gyro Pita”. I actually shared it with someone thus cut in half, but entire pita would be a perfect amount of food for a great tasty lunch. Highly recommend The Big Greek Cafe and will definitely be back. The service was highly welcoming and very friendly. Great job guys!

I love the Big Greek Cafe. The food is always amazing. This time I went to the Kensington location recently. To highlight the customer service I was helped by Jesenia and when I was being indecisive about what I wanted she was very patient with me and guided me through the menu and the options are great. Delicious Greek food at solid prices. They have some unique Greek foods, like the Moussaka (layers of sautéed eggplant and ground beef topped with béchamel), that’s hard to find nowadays. Stop by Wednesdays for their $6 Gyros and you have a winning combination.
Only downside for me is their food is a bit salty, and their yogurt sauce is $1 extra. Otherwise this would be a 5 star restaurant for sure!

We did a take out from this place. Our order included a crispy flounder with loaded fries and jasmine rice, a shrimp platter with a side of Greek roasted potatoes and salad. The plates were extremely tasty and the portion sizes were huge, be mindful when you order. Highly recommend if you are looking for Greek cuisine.
