Sadly, I think this place is losing its awesomeness. Years ago it was so good, we even had them cater our wedding reception. It was one of our favorite BBQ places.
This week was the worst though. The ribs were mostly fat without much flavor. The meats were overly greasy. I was very surprised to see that they now bring out a mini-pitcher of pop to each person for their beverage, seems like they want to fill you up on drinks instead of food, such a waste.
The sides were still decent, also very greasy, but still good.
Overall, I have hopes that they’ll get better. I’ll try it again in a few months when I’m back in town.

First off, the food here is AWESOME!!!
The only thing that keeps me from giving BBQ Shack more stars is its service.
As long as the owner is out in the front of the house and serving guests, everything is great. However, the young server the night I was there was completely inattentive.
She took our order and came back once – only to deliver the food. I had to stop the owner as he was bussing a table nearby to get a box for my leftovers, and then again when we were ready to leave, so we could cash out.
The young server? Standing at the counter with a co-worker, talking and playing on her phone.
I enjoyed the two meat special – brisket and sausage were my choices, with BBQ beans and baked potato salad (served warm). Cost for this plate was about $15.
Other that the lack of service from the wait staff (other than the owner), this place is amazing.
I will go back, and if the service is better, I will update my review.

Wings were delicious! Brisket sammich was pretty good too, but the wings are where it’s at. Friend got the Claude Sr burger (18oz) and it was huge and only like 11 bucks. It was pretty cold in the restaurant and I think the waitress saw me shivering and talking about how cold it was and kicked the heat up. Great food and great service!

A couple of friends and I drove an hour to eat here and it was totally worth the drive!! We started off with fried pickles, corn nuggets and atomic buffalo turds…all of these items were amazing! I had the Mayberry style pork sandwich and it was the best pulled pork sandwich I have had in Kansas City so far.

I’ve eaten here many times and have yet to have anything that wasn’t delicious. If you like your BBQ smoky, then this place delivers! We love the sweet/fire BBQ sauce and unlike many BBQ joints you’ll find, ALL of their sides are delicious. I won’t say healthy, but hey, that’s not why you go for BBQ anyway! All of their meats are well prepared as well, whereas I usually find I don’t care for one or two meats at each BBQ place in KC because they aren’t tender, or are dry, etc. When you go, try the Atomic Buffalo Turds, and definitely order onions straws and the baked potato salad as sides. You’ll go home stuffed….but happy.

The service was sub par, took almost an hour to get our food. The brisket was dry and crumbled when trying to pick up with a fork. The ribs had a bland taste, and prices were fairly expensive for the quality of the food.

Been there 5 times. The food has always been good. Ribs burnt ends pulled pork great. ABT tasty. And the wife doesn’t like smoked so got what she said was the best hamburger.

Worst food ever!! Hah, just kidding, the food was so good I’m just fishing for a free meal next time! A co-worker and I ate there when we came to town to work on a car wash…definitely in my top 3 barbecue ever list! Already planning a return trip with my wife for a date night. If you want McDonald’s prices, go to McDonalds, you get what you pay for, this food was worth every penny.

Dont get me wrong, the food is good. But atmosphere and service suck… The owner is always drinking beer and drunk all the time while at the resteraunt, he also is rude to employees. He belittles them and is verbally and emotionally abussive to his staff. He can’t even get enough people to work for him to run his business. Gee, I wonder why?? Poor poor poor place to work!!!! And then banned me for making this review, great buisness owner, no wonder you went out of buisness!!
