I was sad to have found this place on their last night open because I could definitely see my family eating there again. All of the food was really good and the portions were large. The atmosphere was very nice and the waitresses came by just the right amount to see if we needed anything. The only thing that I would have changed is the waitress having knowledge of what she was selling. I asked what was in the Irish peach drink and all she could tell me is that it was good. She wasn’t wrong, but I would have liked to know what was in it.

Without a doubt..! This is Championship BBQ..! Get there early.. it’s 1st come, 1st serve… Prime Rib & Ribeye steak are James Beard award worthy… the amount of LOVE that goes into everything is obvious.. Kenai is lucky to have.. plus live music and several big TV’s for sports..!

We ate there for the first time and were SO glad we did. The server was excellent, even talked me into trying a new mixed drink (which was awesome!). The food was incredibly good. The ambiance was super laid back and cool. My wife even loved it and she hates BBQ :). Will definitely be seeing us again.

Best BBQ in the state, this place is a gem. Was a 4 hr drive for me and was worth every second. Little hard to find but man they blew me away. I grew up in Texas and pride myself on good BBQ and they impressed me. Prices were cheap and the food was amazing. I had brisket ribs and burnt ends, all tender enough to cut with a fork, street corn potatoe salad and Mac n cheese they were worth the drive by their own. If you like BBQ this is it.

The Return to an Expanded Menu

If you’ve read any of my reviews, then you already know my immense love for this establishment. Their hospitality, cozy atmosphere, and face-slapping food make them a rare gem on the Kenai Peninsula.

Recently, however, they expanded their kitchen operations with a larger menu that gave this guy an itch that needed to be scratched. I needed to know how deep this rabbit hole went. Hungry stomach, hungry desire—I was about to get down on some BBQ.

It was a sunny Thursday evening in July. We pulled up around seven to the smell of BBQ tickling our nostrils as we got out of the car. Today was my day. Today was the day I was going to take on their most INTENSE SANDWICH: the THUMP DADDY. ⚠️

As part of their recently expanded menu, the THUMP DADDY was only available on Thursdays. At least for now. But I’d heard little birdies squawking at work about something else they’d consumed here last weekend. What was that, you ask? Well, apparently, this place has fried Mac & Cheese balls now. WHAT?!

As I gazed upon their menu, the fact that I did not have six stomachs was disappointing. I wanted to try all the old, all the good, and all the unknown. But I am not a BBQ-eating superhero. I am only one man. I am only one man.

The decision was made. I would get the THUMP DADDY. Miss Claire would order the pulled pork entrée, and we’d share one order of the glorious balls of Mac. Did I mention that these Mac & Cheese bites also have brisket inside them? What BBQ wizard came up with such an endeavor?

The food arrived in under 20 minutes after placing our order. The THUMP DADDY was intimidating. Just a mountain of meats between two pieces of cheddar-jalapeño greatness. I had to orchestrate a game plan of attack. Like, how was this going to fit in my mouth hole? As I contemplated life, we started with the Mac & Cheese balls.

BINGO! HOME RUN! CALL IN THE CHICKENS TO ROOST! HOLY CATFISH! PRAISE JESUS!
What in the world is going on, Cory?
Just me, pounding my fist against my chest like a wild man.

The Mac & Cheese balls—may we have a few seconds of silence? So golden and crispy on the outside. So liquidy and packed with Flavor Town on the inside. Imagine their already amazing jalapeño-infused Mac with succulent, melt-in-your-mouth pieces of brisket. You get an order of four, but this guy says: GIVE ME MORE.
No doubt, my friends. Order these. Order them now. You will be changed.

After my small life-changing dinner moment, I still had to conquer. I gazed at my sandwich. I channeled my inner Joey from Friends:
“You are my Everest.”
In I go.

The cross-section on this sandwich. The flavor of this sandwich. The fact that this sandwich exists is the stuff of legends. So, what are my thoughts?

Don’t ORDER THIS BY YOURSELF, LOL.
The one thing I love is that you get to try a large portion of the meats that make this place famous. You get the pulled pork, the brisket, and the smoked sausage.
OH—did I mention they cover it in their house-made queso sauce?

Fabulous. I tip my hat to the pit master.
So what happened? Well… I couldn’t finish it.
I was defeated by the THUMP DADDY.
But I still win, because this just means my lunch today—on the 4th of July—will be just as special.
Happy Birthday, America!
Happy birthday to me. (My birthday is August 9th.)

I also have to throw out some respect to the kitchen. When they delivered my sandwich, they weren’t able to completely construct it to 100% completion. You’re probably asking: What could have been missing from Meat Mountain, Cory? Just the coleslaw, my foodies. Just the coleslaw topper. I wasn’t upset. I just wanted to cross off the coleslaw as another Bayou wonder and—ahhhhh.

The fact that they felt it was important to tell me as they delivered my food speaks volumes about this establishment. The staff makes you feel like family. They want you to leave happy—and full of tales. So here I am, doing my part. I am wr another review of an already amazing place.
With love and crumbs.

Been to the Bayou?
Why not?

Oh my goodness, got so excited about the meat on my, Sizzlin’ Brisket Stack I spilled my Margarita! Sides of Mac-n – Cheese, sweet corn w/ Parmesan and a fresh lime wedge squeezed into my Margarita replacement, Alyssa kept us well fed and happy.

If you missed the boat to the Bayou today…

Food – do not know because service was so poor we left. Although I would point out that the sides are all high carb poor food choices
Service – the place is understaffed and people who work there are grumpy. We stood by front door for 10 minutes without being greeted. Then moved to bar to grab a drink – stood there for 10 minutes without being greeted or taking our order. After a rude comment from the bartender, we went somewhere else.
– Atmosphere nice enough but understaffing ruined the experience.

We had been wanting to try this place out for awhile and so glad we did! Five of us went, got an assortment to all share and STILL went way overboard, a sixth person got a full box of leftovers for dinner
They are obviously still working out kinks like any new place but the atmosphere and and building is BEAUTIFUL, and the food was to die for!
And bonus points for Ambers delicious blueberry lemon drop ☺️ Will be back!

We enjoyed tasty food and drinks, good prices and fun decor. We had the burnt ends (which were quite large), the brisket and the ribs. All were very good as was the corn and potato salad sides that came with our meals. The nachos were huge and st least at this time, they used corn chips instead of homemade potato chips as described on the menu. We had a member of out party who uses a walker and it was a bit of a challenge with the walker but the staff were helpful and it was well worth the effort.
