Had a great time on Taco Tuesday! The tacos were delicious and very reasonably priced. They had a performer singing and playing the acoustic guitar. She had been on American Idol last year and was phenomenal! The Barrel is definitely a hidden gem in Portsmouth!

After a meeting, we gathered here to enjoy our favorite adult beverage. They have several draft and bottle options. While I was not there for the food, they have a full menu. They also have a well stocked bar. This is a neighborhood spot and caters to a thirty and up crowd. The service is great and the crowd friendly. It was Karaoke night.

My husband and I went to the Barrel 2 tonight for the first time. My husband’s co-worker was playing. Lisa was our waitress and was awesome. She was friendly and attentive even though she was going back and forth pretty much by herself. Thank you Lisa for a wonderful experience. The food was good also. I had the wings and fries. The food came out quickly and was good. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting. Thank you.

Love this place. The regulars are welcoming, the owner is friendly, they have excellent food specials, and some sort of entertainment (karaoke, music bingo, live music) every night pretty much.

When reading some of the negative reviews they are ridiculous…

The conversation was political….that happens everywhere. Especially in a military town. It’s certainly not the norm there. The fact that people feel comfortable enough around the other people there to express their opinions shows how friendly the bar is.

You had to pay your tab at shift switch. You should want to do that. Otherwise you’re stiffing the waitress that’s been waiting on you the entire time for a tip. It’s not hard to hand the lady your card.

The chicken fried steak was smaller than you’d like….its a special and was prob 10 bucks. Order 2 if you need more. Still cheaper than most places. You can’t get a Big Mac combo for $10 these days. I promise for the average person it’s a healthy portion.

My point is some people complain just to complain. None of the complaints said their server was rude, it was a sketchy environment that made them feel unsafe or that they were mistreated in anyway. The food is better than most other dive bars in the area. That’s all you can ask for from a dive bar…..it’s a DIVE BAR!!

We went on wing night Wednesday. The place was pretty crowded. The “owner” was there. There was only ONE waitress, even though she was working her butt off, there was no way she could keep up with the demands. The owner, literally did NOTHING to help the waitress. All He’s attention was on his local friends, drinking, laughing, and talking to people the whole time while the waitress ran around like crazy doing her best. It was embarrassing. The owner doesn’t have a damn clue what he’s doing. It’s a shame because the place has a ton of potential for a local bar. He was too busy partying to care about his staff or the bar. Unfortunately, we’ll never go back.

Stumbled (literally) into this place and I thought I’d stumbled into another century. No, I didn’t have to ask someone to score me a beer (underage), but these guys on stage could have been mistaken for Buddy Holly and company and they killed it!! Called Lucky 757, these guys are the real deal and the Barrel is also the real deal! End ’26 here and you’ll be darn glad you did!
