I came in Sunday evening, looking at their menu before i entered their establishment and ready to order for takeout. I waited a bit, around 5 mins before i placed my order with the waitress. Another 10 mins into me waiting i was told the order i placed would take 15-20 mins. I was fine with that and told her I’ll wait that time. Time passed and before you know it I’ve been there for almost 50 mins. The waitress kept telling me it’ll be out in 5 mins every 15 mins. to find out that the side I ordered is no longer available. At this point I waited more than an hour. But i then chose another side and felt decent. After getting my order, I got home and opened my platter. To my surprise, I received small pieces of oxtail in my platter that I paid more than $40 for. Between the wait time and the food that was given, I was completely annoyed from my experience. This was my first time and definitely my last time attending this establishment.

The space is beautifully designed, with colorful painted artwork that adds character and warmth; chic and vibrant Caribbean blend highlighting Haitian and Guyanese flavors. Our waitress, Rejeanne, was amazing, welcoming, attentive, and full of great recommendations. Every dish we ordered was on point flavor-wise, and the drinks were just as good.

The only downside was NO DESSERT MENU , which was surprising given Haiti’s rich tradition of sweet treats like Pain Patate or Tablet Pistach. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d definitely return; hopefully to dessert options next time.

Food was terrible. Went in for pick up and waited over an hour for the jerk chicken and white rice combo. Then to tell me they don’t have anymore white rice for my second order. after an hour is when they realized? Payed over $70 for hard rice at that and the portion wasn’t worth it. I will be going back to Angie soul house for all that drama. Ambiance is small and not really made for dine in for real. First and last time cause the food didn’t even make all that nonsense worth it. *update* spoke with bar manager “tez” and he said they had a busy morning, so that’s probably why I was served hard rice. That was his excuse.

ATMOSPHERE: I dined here with my daughter on a Sunday, late afternoon day. The atmosphere was inviting, quaint and cozy. A very nicely decorated place. Open kitchen concept so you can smell the aromas throughout the dining area which was great for my senses but not for my bronchitis. The billow of smoke that poured over the dining area had me choking up a storm. I had to hit the inhaler a few times back to back. I had to put my face in my shirt at one point to keep from coughing and disturbing the other table.

Here’s my take on our food:

BEVERAGES: my daughter ordered the Golden Sunrise $17 (she gave it 4 stars) and I ordered the BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS for $35. There was a lag in my bottomless mimosas. It was like they forgot I ordered bottomless and my glass just sat empty for way too long. I began sipping on my water instead. That shouldn’t happen especially since there were only 2 tables being serviced at the time. Across from us was a party of 3 finishing up their food; leaving our table as the only table in the house. The mimosas were juiced done. Barely tasted the champagne except when the manager noticed my empty glass. He brought me a proper mimosa. Whomever was making the other ones was serving me juice with a splash of Andre’ lol: ⭐️⭐️

APPETIZER: we ordered sak pase’ coconut shrimp. Later to learn it was not available. We ordered the jerk chicken tacos ($17) in its place and they were absolutely delicious! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

MAIN COURSE: southern fried chicken with Mac n cheese and collard greens ($32) I haven’t had someone make greens like that in forever! The greens were delicious and so flavorful. I would come back for the greens. Mac n Cheese ate down! Five stars and the fried chicken was so darn crispy. SEASONED TO THE GODS! Get this meal!

Island Chicken and Waffle ($16) with a side of collard greens ($10) and side of Mac and cheese ($8). I had to order greens and Mac for myself after taking a fork full of my daughter’s portion. The portion of greens however was extremely small for the price. This should be no more than $5 for the condiment size bowl they came in. Three to four forks full of greens. The flavor is so good as they are seasoned and made with smoked turkey. That bowl is not worth ten dollars fam. The waffle was slightly gooey. Not to my liking but the chicken was so darn good I didn’t care about that waffle. I was so pleased with the way they fried that chicken. Yeah, I need a tray of that for my next event. That Mac was served in a small cast iron dish and was so cheesy and baked to perfection. Absolutely Delicious! 5 STARS. The portion is priced right.

I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK TO TRY MORE DISHES! I HAVE ALREADY RECOMMENDED THEM TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

SERVICE: server was accommodating and checked in on us within a reasonable amount of time. There was a very lovely lady that greeted and sat us. She too checked in while we dined. That was very nice. The dining experience here was very good except overlooking my mimosa service so I give this establishment FOUR STARS! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

CHECK TOTAL: $153.16 does not include tip. I tipped $30 in cash.

THANK YOU FOR A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE. Keep up THE GREAT WORK!

We were very excited to have a local Caribbean dining spot and have been here multiple times. We have had great experiences with the staff and the owners are lovely! The place is small but furnished and decorated great, nice vibes overall. They just lack consistency in the food. The jerk chicken is flavored perfectly but has sometimes come under cooked. The fried chicken has the perfect crispness and flavor but has sometimes come out under cooked and too salty. The mac and cheese has been excellent. The fish has also been delicious but sometimes over cooked. We overall love the addition of this place to the town and hope they will get even better over time!

I really wanted to like this place, and I’ll give credit where it’s due when we brought concerns to the staff, they did address them. That said, the overall experience needs work.

The space is very small, which makes efficient service even more important. Unfortunately, service was slow throughout the visit. Our drinks arrived watered down and appeared to have been sitting at the bar for some time. After sending one back, the replacement had the same issue.

The mac and cheese lacked texture and depth it would benefit from being baked to develop more flavor. It taste like noodles mixed with roux .. ??? Without being baked …????
Our entrées were also served cold and had to be sent back. This wasn’t just one person that had this issue, it was the TABLE that had these issues.

Additionally, the restroom needs more attention in terms of upkeep. There needs to be staff doing rounding.

Opening a restaurant requires more than good recipes it requires systems, timing, and hospitality training. There is potential here, but the operational flow needs refinement for the experience to match the vision.

I hope the team takes this feedback constructively, because with stronger execution, this could be a much better spot. It wouldn’t hurt to bring in a hospitality consultant and have a few workshops to restructure the business. And the music does not to be blasting for a Sunday dinner crowd, it’s too small in there for that level of noise.

Tonight I had dinner with my family at The Barnyard. We don’t live far from the establishment so rolling into the downtown area of Farmingdale was familiar and lively. From start to finish, our waitress Regine was courteous and attentive. The atmosphere was welcoming and the music was on point. The owners were moving around making drinks, serving and checking in with patrons to see how the experience was. The chef even stopped by to say hello & we complimented him on his skills- the FOOD is good!!! We were well pleased with the restaurant, service, food, drinks and we will be going back. If you haven’t gone, please go support this black owned business and grab a taste of the Caribbean!! #barnyardgriot #rumpunchRUMMIN’ #tunesgroovin’

Me, my wife, our 1.5 year old and 2 friends of ours just dined here last night for the first time, and seriously can’t say enough about this place! Every appetizer, main dish, and drink we ordered was incredible, but what was even better was the overall service, attention to detail, and family atmosphere. Our server was absolutely lovely and very attentive. The chef not only came out to ask how our meals were (as well as the rest of the restaurant), but also made time to have a fun conversation with us. The entire staff felt like one big family which made the atmosphere great, and you can also tell the amount of care they have not only in their food, but how they treat everybody. We will be back time and time again! P.S. the fried chicken, mac & cheese, and oxtail were phenomenal! Hope to see this place here for a very long time.

What a fantastic experience! As someone who grew up with this food, I can honestly say it felt like home. The shrimp and grits were perfectly cooked and seasoned, the fried chicken was crispy and fresh, and the waffle was sweet and balanced beautifully with the scratch-made maple syrup. I was lucky enough to try the jerk chicken too—it was spot on: spicy, savory, and packed with bold allspice-forward flavor.

The rum punch was strong and tasty, rounding out a truly authentic meal. On top of that, the wait staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating to my 2-year-old, and they even let my mom—who arrived late—sit in and snack without giving us a hard time. Service was 10/10. Ask for T or Kee!

This is the kind of food my Auntie Maudie would be proud of. Run, don’t walk, to The Barnyard ASAP!
