I’m a very picky coffee drinker. My drink I make in my own shop is a mocha with 4-6 shots, and only 1 or 2 pumps of mocha sauce depending on the day. I ordered the Howert’s hammer and was incredibly impressed!! My wife got the Mine dust, and she loved it. We also got the chocolate banana crepe, and it was perfect. If I was local I’d be at this shop every day. The staff was friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was incredible, and the coffee was perfect! Thank you to The Balkan, for doing coffee well, and inspiring me to do better at my own shop. I’m just sad I live nearly 7 hours from this incredible Coffeehouse!

What a lovely café. The ambience is serene, the staff is friendly, and the pastries are beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed the sweet croissant and the Salt on the Earth latte. I even had to bring a croissant home for my husband to try. I’ll be back to try the soup of the day bread bowl.

What an amazing coffee shop wow. Love the canary theme throughout the cafe. And fyi the baked goods are from the gourmet store, blue spoon down the street. This place is one of those rare gems that blow your socks off. Definitely a must visit at least twice.

You can tell Christina and Brenda put so much thought into each detail of The Balkan. The food and drinks are all delicious; I have yet to order something I didn’t like. I love the call to the town’s rich coal mining history. They made the culture of the building come alive with their vision. This has to be my favorite small business!

Best coffee shop I’ve been to so far in Pittsburg! The drinks are phenomenal! Try a Salt of the Earth, it’s so rich and carmelly! And don’t forget about the atmosphere, it’s got a little local market with plants and soaps, there’s chess, music and in the evening it turns into a cocktail bar!

Just tried this place for the first time. Will definitely be back! Sooo good! The pastries look amazing. I tried the Spinach and bacon crepe. It was phenomenal! Great coffee too. Can’t wait to come back on the weekend to try their biscuits n gravy with a mimosa! Yum!

You could not ask for a better venue for a private event, had a birthday gathering and it was amazing. These folks really know how to take care of you! The food, service and atmosphere were perfect!

The best coffee spot in town. Order is always out fast. The breakfast I have tried has been very good and perfect to take to work. Now the special addition to this review. In the evenings, this place turns into the Canary and it’s my wife and I’s favorite drink spot. They have the best craft beer in town. The Belly Wash made by KC Bier Co. Specifically for the Balkan. My wife loves many of the mix drink options. The atmosphere is perfect in the morning and evening!

The coffee is great! And the vibe is cozy and relaxing. Lots of wood and dark tones. The couches are very comfy. Definitely worth the stop.

The atmosphere has a very elegant and romantic feel. It reminded me a lot of a cigar lounge with the element of a speakeasy.
I could definitely see a lot of dates occurring here.

The bartender, Madison, did a phenomenal job making my 1892 cocktail. It is very similar to an Old Fashioned.
My wife enjoyed the Apology cocktail. It reminded me of a white chocolate mocha frappuccino.

The waitstaff was great. They were very friendly and very attentive to the customers.

Lori and I both tried the meatballs.
The meatballs were dense with a nice crust on the outside and were very well seasoned.
The sauce was VERY flavorful and chunky, the way i like it.
There wasn’t one flavor that over powered the dish. The combination was very well ballanced. The presentation was that of what I’d expect at an upscale restaurant.

I can see this place growing a lot.
Maybe a poetry night, light jazz band, or a pianist night.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, I strongly recommend it.
