I had been interested in trying this restaurant for quite some time and thought Valentine’s Day would be the perfect occasion. We were running 10 minutes late (we were coming from Norfolk) so I called to let someone know. Dana answered the phone said something about lots of reservations/people waiting (we had a 5:30 reservation) and that they could accommodate as best they could before hanging up in my face.
When I got to the restaurant (my boyfriend dropped me off at the door while he went to go park) I checked in for the reservation and got a table right behind the host stand.
I ordered an espresso martini which tasted like watered down milk and looked like it too. I serve and bartend and I’ve never made nor have I ever seen an espresso martini that looked like milk in a martini glass. It tasted awful.
We let Michelle know and she informed us of the policy which we understood but she assured us she’d see what she could do. Moments later a woman who we’d assume was a manger came over and asked “Did you not like your coffee drink? We can’t take it off the bill but we’ll beef it up for you a little bit.” Not sure what that meant but she took the drink back to the bar and a few moments later brought it back to the table, it was still unpleasant.
Ultimately, I was able to get a different drink and I chose the caramel baileys martini, with a crushed pretzel rim which was A LOT better, but still not the best. For my next and final drink I got something similar to a French 75 with prosecco, can’t recall the name but that was the best drink I had there.
We had the mussels in a curry cream sauce for our appetizer which were delicious. My boyfriend ordered the lamb burger and I ordered the steak. My steak was cold but we opted to just say nothing at this point. My steak also came out before his burger. We decided to have the steak boxed up to finish at home and just split his burger and fries.
The lamb burger was so good! Probably my favorite thing of the evening. The fries were also superb!
Overall, I understand Valentine’s Day is a busy day for restaurants and things happen. Michelle’s service definitely made the night more of an enjoyable experience. I would be willing to give this place another try in the future.
Baker’s Wife Bistro never disappoints. The food and service are always outstanding, but tonight was especially great thanks to our server, Linsey—she was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and truly elevated the whole experience.
The dry-aged duck breast is my absolute favorite dish, and I love that the menu rotates so there’s always something new to try. My partner is a big fan of their steak cuts—always cooked perfectly. We always start with the truffle fries (a must-order), and the new oatmeal cream pie dessert is to die for. The drinks are consistently strong, well-crafted, and delicious.
This place is a gem and easily our top date night choice in the Hampton area. Highly recommend!
Our waiter, Sean, was an absolute revelation. His knowledge of the menu was truly impressive; he didn’t just rattle off ingredients, but offered genuine insights into the preparation, sourcing, and even the subtle flavor profiles of each dish. He guided us through the menu with expertise and passion, making excellent recommendations that perfectly suited our preferences. It’s rare to encounter a server so genuinely enthusiastic and well-versed, and Sean’s recommendations enhanced our meal immeasurably.
The meal – simply divine! The head chef is a true culinary artist. Every dish that arrived at our table was a masterpiece, both visually stunning and bursting with incredible flavors. You could taste the dedication and creativity in every bite. From the perfectly balanced appetizers to the exquisitely prepared entrees and the divine desserts, each course was a testament to the chef’s skill and vision. It was a truly memorable dining experience, where every dish told a story and left us eager for the next.
The ambiance was charming, the service impeccable, and the food utterly phenomenal. The Baker’s Wife has officially become our favorite spot. Bravo to the entire team, especially Sean and the brilliant head chef, for crafting such an unforgettable evening!
The location is smaller and kind of unassuming from the outside, but they do a good job of table/restaurant arrangement, and the decor is tasteful and pleasant overall. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and our server was very accommodating to the needs of our larger party, even as we needed to have two people sit at the table next to the main table to fit everyone in.
We started out with some orders of the brioche rolls and “interesting butter”, which is a rotating infused butter. That night it was herb truffle, and the combo was quite nice. For my entree, I opted for the dry-aged duck breast since I really enjoy duck and it’s certainly not an everyday menu item. It was served with seared foie gras, baked salt beets, blackberries and blackberry coulis. This dish was outstanding, with tons of complementary flavors that was crafted extremely well. Definitely one of the better mains I have had in awhile, even with the loftier price tag.
Overall, this is a lovely restaurant that sets itself apart in the Hampton area, anchored by very good food and lovely service. Definitely worth a stop if in the area.
