Was looking for a place for our weekly date night but was also craving pizza. This was the only nicer ambiance type place with waiter service I could find. I had low to mid-level expectations before coming since while I do love brick oven pizza, I prefer my neopolitan crust to be a little thicker and chewy and not thin crust. With that said, this place blew it out of the park! The beet salad was a good portion for sharing and had unique flavors. The pepperoni pizza was fantastic and I ate the entire thing which is surprising since I read online that they are known for their big portions and I don’t think i ever ate an entire neopolitan myself in one sitting. I also had the chocolate hazelnut toffee budino (pudding) for desert and loved it. 5 stars for service, ambiance, food. I can’t wait to come back. They no longer serve nduja and I hope they will bring that back to their menu.

The space is small and cozy, and it truly makes you feel like you’re somewhere other than Austin. The service was great, our server was attentive and really nice. The pizzas were delicious, definitely the highlight of the visit. We tried the lemon wings and they were good, but we were expecting something different.

Since it’s in Downtown, parking can be a bit tricky, so plan ahead. I also recommend making a reservation because the place is small and fills up fast.

There was a slight odd smell at times, which we think might have been coming from the pipes, but it wasn’t a major issue.

Overall, it’s a solid spot and I’d definitely go back for the pizza and the vibe.

The Backspace is a great spot for wood-fired pizza if you appreciate quality ingredients and a more refined take on classic pies. The crust was the highlight—thin, slightly charred, and full of flavor—while the toppings felt thoughtfully balanced rather than overloaded. Everything tasted fresh, from the sauce to the cheese, and the pizza came out quickly despite a busy dining room. The atmosphere is lively but still comfortable, making it a good place for a casual dinner or meeting friends.

Pizzeria in Downtown Austin , very small inside so consider to book your table before online at least a day before. What I didn’t like is the size of the table, we were 3 and it was very tiny table you can’t even keep glasses and plates on it if you have pizzas. Atmosphere is good, pleasant music . Pizzas were ok, nothing to compare to Italian, in Italy doesn’t exist pizza with nduja potatos and parsley!!! My Italian husband was in shock after finding parsley on pizza instead of basil. Chocolate budino for dessert was delicious as well as Italian beer Peroni. If you like try different pizza places, definitely give it a try.

A very nice little hidden pizzeria. The lemon chicken wings were light and had a nice lemon twist served with peccorino. The butternut squash in brown butter was fantastic, not overly sweet and very morish!

The pizza I took was the bianca, I like thin and crispy bases and this was great! Also the prosciutto is yummy as an addition!

Thanks for a good quick lunch!

Best pizza I’ve ever had in my life, and I love pizza! Our server was Sydney C. We’re visiting from out of town, and this will be my recommendation to any other tourist. I enjoyed the fennel sausage more than the pepperoni Americano. And I recommend always asking for pepper flakes and chili oil. The tiramisu is worth the extra money.

So glad we heard about this neat little spot and dropped in. The space is cozy yet lofty and they are serious about their thin crust pizza which is admittedly my favorite style, especially when it has a bit of that light oven charr and blistering…yum. The 12” pizzas are generous n size and I think perfect for sharing when everyone picks their fav. We also shared salads and barely finished it all so come hungry. Service was friendly and prompt and we’ll definitely be back to try other offerings from the wood fired oven. PS- compact but serviceable wine offerings available.

What a hidden gem! The Backspace is a must-visit if you’re in Austin. The pizza is outstanding the flavor, the crust, and the true wood-fired quality give it that authentic touch. Having tried pizza all across Italy, I can honestly say this meets the mark. The food is fantastic, and the service is absolutely excellent. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great dining experience!

Small place but nice.
It’s not an original Italian pizza. Nduja pizza has to be just a simple margerita with nduja. Please use mozzarella cheese.
Peroni ok.
