I would love to give a huge shout-out and thank you to The Back Porch restaurant. I’ve had nothing but wonderful memories and excellent food there over the years. I’ve been going for so long, and I should have written this message a long time ago.
The restaurant is always clean, everyone is so kind, and I’m greeted warmly every time I visit. I recently celebrated a birthday dinner there, and it was perfect. A special shout-out to our waitress tonight—Kristen. She was amazing, and I will definitely ask for her again.
Thanks again for always making me feel so special.
Sincerely,
Kevin and Jeanne Kennedy

The Back Porch sits in a beautiful historic home from the early 1800s along the Monongahela—tons of charm and character that really pulls you in. We went expecting a solid, upscale-business casual dinner that matched the price.
It didn’t quite hit the mark. The main dining room was packed, tables crammed so close you could hear every word from the next group over, and servers squeezed past chairs—not ideal when you’re paying for a more private, historic, refined vibe. Our server was friendly but seemed to show up late for their shift, so service was spotty; the hostess or manager jump in with apologies, stating they needed to fill in for the server, which was nice but showed things were a bit off.
Food was average—nothing wrong with it—but nothing special or memorable either. My beef came out well-done instead of the medium I asked for, which was disappointing at that price. Not upset, just being honest.
With its great history and potential, a little tighter management (better seating flow, more consistent service, spot-on cooking) could make it a real standout in the area.
For the best historic fine-dining experience around Washington County, though, we’ll stick with The Century Inn in Scenery Hill. The food is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is warm and beautifully preserved, and the service feels genuinely personal—like the staff are happy to see you and know exactly how to make the night special. It’s hands-down the best value and experience in the region.
We won’t be heading back to The Back Porch but appreciated dining in a historic location.
Here are a few shots of the places to give you the feel:
Photos 1/2: The historic charm and dining areas at The Back Porch (love the building, but the indoor/outdoor seating can get tight)
Photos 3/4: The cozy, welcoming interiors at The Century Inn—this is how refined historic dining should feel in my experience.

I want to thank The Back Porch Staff for a fantastic wedding night 1/16/26. Luke and his team were great and on top of everything. The food was fantastic. The Back Porch is great place to have a small 40 person wedding. I highly recommend them.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant, quite possibly the best restaurant in all of Pennsylvania. We had the Filet, it was incredible! The mushroom risotto is one of a kind. Alissa was the best waitress we’ve had. Very enjoyable atmosphere and experience.

absolutely divine dining experience!! scrumptious food and quaint dining ambiance! our server was super friendly. We had a large table and they were very attentive and it didn’t seem like we waited long for our food. The food was also so delicious. Our group also had them make a cake for our celebration and it was the perfect cake to a perfect dining experience. Highly recommend. lovely setting. my only minus would be that all of the dinners are à la carte.

If you’re looking for a charming summer dining spot just outside of Pittsburgh, The Back Porch is a must visit. Located just 50 minutes from downtown pittsburgh, this historic restaurant delivers a cozy, upscale experience with a fresh seasonal menu that highlights local ingredients and summer flavors. Alaina took great care of us throughout our entire visit and guided us through their menu. We also got a chance to speak with their phenomenal chef, Kevin Carson. Their summer menu is full of standout dishes. We had the burrata bruschetta and the calamari to start. You could taste how fresh the tomatoes were and the calamari is fully prepared in their kitchen. Be sure to ask about the daily specials, we got the special cocktail, the Paloma Hugo Spritz and it was the perfect thing for patio sipping. We also split the clobster grilled cheese because we couldn’t resist crab and lobster combined with cheese between bread. It was absolutely delicious. For our mains, we tried some of the summer menu highlights- the Salmon & Crab Hemingway, Rack of Lamb, side of truffle fries, side of cheesy scallop potatoes, and a side of asparagus. Everything was made to perfection and truly incredible. I absolutely adored their outdoor seating area. It was a mix of covered and uncovered patio offerings g a peaceful atmosphere whether you’re looking to enjoy in the sun or a shaded seat. It’s the perfect setup for a summer evening with friends, family, or date night. We did save room for dessert and tried out the dessert sampler which came with the pecan ball, crème brûlée and a cannoli. We paired these with their tiramisu martini and their s’mores martini. It was the perfect finish for a perfect meal. With friendly service, delicious food, and a relaxed yet elegant vibe, The Back Porch is a hidden gem for anyone looking to enjoy a summer meal outside the city. Add it to your Pittsburgh food bucket list!

We happened to be passing through the area. Stumbled upon this Google suggestion and was the best decision. Had the lamb, asparagus and au graitin potatoes, orange almond old fashion, and a pecan ball. The carrot cake was fantastic! All were absolutely fantastic!! We didn’t have a reservation but they had a table open downstairs in a little room at the bottom of the stairs right before the wine bar room. Was nice and cozy!

Our Chef and Waitress were incredible and I hate that I failed in getting their names, very humble, kind and we thank you very much- from start to finish the service was incredible and the food and drinks were amazing. We were able to sit in the speakeasy, having dinner in a historical atmosphere. I came as part of a business trip and would definitely come back again!

3hrs waste…. Sad to see how far this former 5 start resterant has fallen.
DISAPPOINTMENT….
We were the only people (other than staff) in the restaurant That should have been the hint to run.
When calling for a 4p reservations we were charged a “reservation fee”. We was advised to arrived early. Arrived at 345. And seated at 355. No menus No water, Nothing. Around 415. two menus and water arrived. At 5 the restaurant started to fill up. Still no food only beverages and bread have was served.
Parties of 6 and 8 arrived at 5. They were served and out the door before our dinners were served.
Servers with attitude, lukewarm , over cooked food, fishy soup, hidden up charges, and added charges for items not delivered.
Servers blamed the kitchen for time and quality. Plus the unwillingness to correct the food or bill. Even McDonald refunds or recooks food. Asked to speak to management but they never showed at the table. .
Only bright spot was the tasty appetizer and ice cool water.

I was almost totally “wowed” during my second visit here. Unfortunately, a couple of small, but notable moments took the experience from phenomenal, to just pretty good. The lobster bisque was less impressive than I remember, with less than a tablespoon of meat, and a tan colored, slimy broth. Beef ragu was clearly microwaved – piping hot in the middle, cool on the outside and top, and sitting in the water it leeched during heating. The pasta was over cooked, mushy, and wasn’t very warm. Yuck. However, its flavor was amazing, and I’m certain the pasta is, indeed, homemade! Mussels were delicious, tender, and cooked perfectly with lots of bread for dipping! Atmosphere and service are unbeatable, and I can only assume this was an off night for them, as they’re recovering from a massive holiday rush. This would not prevent me from returning. Pork chop was tender, flavorful, and had a nice pan sauce. I typically don’t care for pork, but it was juicy and delicious. The atmosphere everywhere is gorgeous, but the speakeasy is extra cozy and unique. Our server was bubbly, happy to be serving, and excited to be behind the bar, too! She served up delicious drinks, and made me a tasty Boozy-Coffee to finish off our meal. Our waitress was new to bartending, and she apologized for “the wait,” a few times, but I personally think she was right on pace! I didn’t feel I had waited too long for anything at all.
