Social Profile:

The “back eddy: a current that runs counter to the mainstream. This defines our restaurant perfectly: A seafood restaurant that does things a little bit differently. Our mission is to promote eating locally produced product. The ultra fresh produce from the many farms of Southeastern Massachusetts & Coastal Rhode Island; the wide variety of fish brought to shore by New England’s Fisherman; wine, beer, & cheese from local artisan producers & the mixture of Portuguese influence with the oldest American cooking style, provides our kitchen with an incredibly diverse range to work with. With our concept of thinking coastal & eating local we can provide you, our guests, with the freshest food in the area.

River views from the patio or the warm dining room draw fans to this inventive seafood-centric spot.

Certainly a upper scale spot off the coast. Ordered the 1.5 pound lobster entree along with The fresh Salmon. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience or more of a fabulously crafted taste. Nothing under done nor over the top

Beautiful restaurant, location is right on the water. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and a dock for standing on as you wait with a cute bar that you can get drinks and enjoy the views while you wait for your table. The bar (I don’t know if separate from the restaurant only accepts cash) You can get there by boat or car. My husband and I had a lovely dinner. The food was delicious. The waitress was nice, was always checking on us and smiling. She brought extra bread without was even asking as if she had read my mind. The house pickles are delicious and I don’t even like pickles. We arrived at the right time to catch a beautifully sunset. We got there around 7:50pm. Looking forward to come back.

We were given a gift certificate for The Back Eddy. We drove 2 hours to get there, but it was worth it. It is very pricey, but worth the money. The food is fresh, cooked exactly how you want it, and served with a smile. The location is right on the water. There is outdoor seating, and a dock for standing on as you wait. Of course the seafood is fresh and prepared perfectly, but the steak was cooked on a wood fire with Bleu cheese butter. The deviled eggs from hell are do creamy and spicy and delicious! A must try item. Our server stayed on top of keeping our drinks filled and was very good at recommending meals. Worth the drive and the money. It’s a bit loud for a first date, but a second date would work out just fine here.

Came to the Back Eddy on a recommendation and it exceeded our expectations! Drinks were great, the outdoor bar was cool! Watching the boats dock was fun! We ordered the appetizer special of Wood Smoked Ribs on a bed of Blue Cheese Slaw. The aroma was mouthwatering!

We loved our late lunch! It’s family friendly with a great atmosphere. I got the steak and my husband got the swordfish steak, we split our meals – I don’t know which was better. The deviled eggs were amazing !

First time here and had a great time. Beautiful water views, delicious food, great service. Took my dad out for Father’s Day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Our waitress, Mary Jane, was so polite and attentive. We’ll definitely be back again!

We thought we would stop by a local seafood restaurant coming back from Gooseberry Island and stopped by this restaurant. We called ahead and easily made a reservation. The very young staff and wait staff were very attentive and friendly once we arrived . And the atmosphere and location were very nice. We arrived very close to opening and were seated next to an unopened window. The servers were gracious. I ordered mussels in a spicy Asian coconut sauce. Very good. Mussels were tender. And the toasted bread that came with it was fresh. My meal was filling and satisfying. I like spicy food. And the mix of coconut milk and hot chilies seemed right As we waited for our drinks and food the place started to fill up. The place became noisy. Very noisy. I ordered the crab cakes as they were a special for the day. They were tiny. About quarter size. Six of them for $18. They were filled mostly with bread crumbs with little crab. I wish I had not ordered them. I asked about ordering their baked beans to find that the beans contained pork and bacon. I passed on the beans. My partner ordered the small portion of fish and chips. She said that the fish was delicious and cooked very well. They don’t do substitutions for sides with meals. So if you don’t like the way they prepare a side dish your only option is to not order the side that comes with the meal. They don’t reduce the price for not ordering a side that is not appealing. The bill came to close to $80. As we finished our meal, the place continued to fill up and became even noisier. The late afternoon sun came through the unopened window. And our table space became hot and very poorly ventilated. Wish we had eaten outside. I think that would have been a better experience. I mentioned the very young wait staff as most of the table servers seemed to be high school age. Overall I enjoyed the mussels but not the noise. Will try another place next time as the noise was just too much. Nearly $40 per person for what we had seemed on the expensive side. And if you are looking for vegetarian or even vegan seafood options this is not the place. Putting pork and bacon in beans ruins the baked beans. I eat seafood occasionally but not meat. Their seafood menu contained pork and steak. I never understood why a seafood restaurant would offer pork and steak except as an option to non seafood people. But to their credit there was no chicken or hamburgers on their menu. I don’t remember a salad option on their menu either. So mixed reviews. So so food and a noisy expensive place.
