Social Profile:

The “back eddy: a current that runs counter to the mainstream. This defines our restaurant perfectly: A seafood restaurant that does things a little bit differently. Our mission is to promote eating locally produced product. The ultra fresh produce from the many farms of Southeastern Massachusetts & Coastal Rhode Island; the wide variety of fish brought to shore by New England’s Fisherman; wine, beer, & cheese from local artisan producers & the mixture of Portuguese influence with the oldest American cooking style, provides our kitchen with an incredibly diverse range to work with. With our concept of thinking coastal & eating local we can provide you, our guests, with the freshest food in the area.

River views from the patio or the warm dining room draw fans to this inventive seafood-centric spot.

We were given a gift certificate for The Back Eddy. We drove 2 hours to get there, but it was worth it. It is very pricey, but worth the money. The food is fresh, cooked exactly how you want it, and served with a smile. The location is right on the water. There is outdoor seating, and a dock for standing on as you wait. Of course the seafood is fresh and prepared perfectly, but the steak was cooked on a wood fire with Bleu cheese butter. The deviled eggs from hell are do creamy and spicy and delicious! A must try item. Our server stayed on top of keeping our drinks filled and was very good at recommending meals. Worth the drive and the money. It’s a bit loud for a first date, but a second date would work out just fine here.

Food is always fantastic!! And the view is great. The outside bar is cash only and all sun. They offer a few things like raw bar and hot dogs outside as well. They have outdoor seating that is shaded if you speak to the hostess. Little pricey, but so good! @amp_eats (instagram and Facebook)

First time here and had a great time. Beautiful water views, delicious food, great service. Took my dad out for Father’s Day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Our waitress, Mary Jane, was so polite and attentive. We’ll definitely be back again!

If I could give them zero stars I would. I ordered the $46 rib eye steak – medium. They bring it to me, I cut into the center to discover it was overcooked, closer to well done. I flagged down the waitress right away and she takes my plate, apologizing and saying she will take it back to the kitchen. I started to think I should switch my order to fried scallops and went up to the waitress who was standing in front of the open kitchen, and was told the steak was already on the grill. Okay, fine…no problem. Less than 3 minutes later they deliver the SAME STEAK THAT THEY JUST REHEATED. Mind you, it was overcooked to begin with and they put it BACK on the grill then bring it back to me. By this time it was beyond well done (I ordered it medium), it was hammered. I can only assume the woman they sent over to talk to me was the assistant manager. She was very snotty and rude. I pulled up a pic online of what medium looks like and showed her the inside of my (twice cooked) steak, not a spot of pink…all brown. She fought with me and I told her I wasn’t paying for or eating the steak. So, I ended up ordering the fried scallops, which were also horrible. No coating just pan fried and over done, big surprise! Go back? NEVER!

Beautiful restaurant, location is right on the water. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and a dock for standing on as you wait with a cute bar that you can get drinks and enjoy the views while you wait for your table. The bar (I don’t know if separate from the restaurant only accepts cash) You can get there by boat or car. My husband and I had a lovely dinner. The food was delicious. The waitress was nice, was always checking on us and smiling. She brought extra bread without was even asking as if she had read my mind. The house pickles are delicious and I don’t even like pickles. We arrived at the right time to catch a beautifully sunset. We got there around 7:50pm. Looking forward to come back.

Review of Back Eddy restaurant Dec 31, 2025

Only the company of my charming wife kept our recent dinner at the Back Eddy from ruining this New Years Eve. We arrived early and were seated in the front room of the nearly empty restaurant which seats over 200. We could scarcely hear one another because the manager and a half dozen staff circled a few feet away and engaged in loud conversation and raucous laughter for over a half hour.

This rather expensive establishment describes itself as an elegant seafood restaurant; but the small cod serving brought to my wife was hardened to a crust as from repeated re-heating, likewise the chirico sausage was rubbery and inedible, indicative of re-heating. My over-priced burger was bare of the customary condiments (tomato, lettuce) and the meat was quite sparse.

We were obliged to summon a waiter for water and later to choose desserts and obtain our check. Clearly the staff was more interested in their ongoing nearby loud conversation than in serving us; though the place remained virtually empty throughout our meal.

The bill for cod, burger, and two small desserts was about $ 100. There are several other waterfont restaurants, such as the Boathouse and the Cove, which provide excellent food and service near our home in Little Compton. We will certainly never return to the Back Eddy.

Great place to stop at after a horse eck beach trip. Dropped here with family and were impressed by service and quality of seafood. Fish and chips and fried oysters are great.

Great experience-food was hot and plentiful and all courses timed perfectly. We had chowder and shrimp for appetizers, fish and chips, ribeye, burger and mussels for meals. French fries were off the hook and the bowl of pickles made my day!!! Got to watch a great sunset over the water and boats. Cannot wait to go back!!!

Can’t beat the view of the ocean and boats. They have a small bar and seating outdoors or you can sit and get full service indoors and still see the views. The food was much better than 2 years ago when we last visited. The clam plate was excellent, the swordfish was excellent, and the lobster roll was good. Service and atmosphere is very good.

Certainly a upper scale spot off the coast. Ordered the 1.5 pound lobster entree along with The fresh Salmon. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience or more of a fabulously crafted taste. Nothing under done nor over the top
