A couple of friends and I visited this great little food truck yesterday. We weren’t sure what to expect and like the morons we are we all ordered the same thing. But were thoroughly impressed.
We all had the brisket poutine. The fries were amazing, the gravy was thick, dark and tasty. The cheese curds huge and squeaky. And the brisket…. My god the brisket.
I couldn’t believe that it wasn’t busier as we were there at peak dinner time, I think people are sleeping in this due to its location. It’s right beside a gas station, and there’s just a couple of picnic tables to dine at. But that doesn’t take away from what you’re there for. The food!

If you like BBQ and haven’t yet discovered this place in Ajax, you need to find your way over to The Back 40 Smoke Box, located on Brock St, just south of Rossland. They have no visible signage from the street but they’re located right next to the Esso service station.
I recently tried their Meat Sampler, which includes pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, and back ribs. I also tried their sausage, and chilli. It was all good!
The meats were tender and delicious, with just the right amount of smoke. The ribs were almost falling off the bone. Perfect! The sausage had a really nice flavour but the chilli was really good, one of the best I’ve had!
The service was excellent, witth these guys being friendly and engaging, making sure I got everything. They even included a few samples of their BBQ sauces, and their creamy apple slaw.
Their menu also includes wings, sandwiches, poutines, and some delicious sides. Drop in to try their delicious food!

Phenomenal smoked BBQ . Ordered this for our staff lunch and the food was really really incredible. One of the gentleman on staff is an avid smoker and BBQ’er and even he said the food was very very impressive. The beef brisket sandwich was incredible. I’ll definitely be taking my family for food here.

I was extremely disappointed with the catering I had for a 60th milestone birthday.
They showed up 1 hour + late and struggled to place the trailer into yard for about 20 minutes. Food was served more than an hour behind schedule.
The vegetable and potatoes were undercooked and smothered in salt and pepper. The ribs were tough and undercooked and served dry.
What was supposed to be baked potatoes was undercooked roasted potatoes.
There was no proper food presentation and guests were served straight from the grill with no idea what sides were even available.
Only the brisket and coleslaw were decent.
Completely unprofessional and not worth hiring for an important event.

Huge brisket snob reporting in! Other comments said it was “Texas style” so I had to check it out. Now this review is only for the interaction I had with the gentleman inside the trailer and the brisket sandwich. Conversation was good and service was fast enough (I see other reviewers had some issues). The brisket had a nice smoke ring and a bit of marbling suggesting my slices came from the point (as opposed to the dryer flat). The apple slaw was a greater counterpoint to the sauce they put on. I really should have asked which sauce it was because I really liked it. Had a nice bite to it, like a hint of ghost pepper). Plenty of meat was stacked on the sandwich and the bun was very soft.
Put it this way… Stopped by an Arby’s (sorry) the day before and my stuff wouldn’t touch it. But this brisket sandwich my dog wanted all to himself. Yes, I shared with him (just the unsauced meat) but I definitely displayed my dominance by eating most of it.
Will be back with the family next time!
