When I inevitably return for the same event next year you can be sure i’ll be back at The Auld Dubliner.
Prices are in line for the area and not so overinflated that folks on per Diem should balk completely at the cost of the meal. You won’t have much left over for anything, else but some self control with the alcoholic beverages and the evening won’t put you in the “hole”.
I asked for my sandwich to be made with a French baguette instead of regular toast, and it turned out amazing! I’ll definitely be coming back!
The place is dog-friendly, which is a big plus.
However, I wouldn’t recommend the calamari here. They’re tough to chew and feel like they’re trying to make you choke on long strips. I’ve had much better calamari elsewhere with a different, more enjoyable texture.
If you’re planning to try the Beef Wellington like I did, you should know that on Sundays when the convention center is open, they’ll serve a convention menu and won’t be able to prepare this dish. For example, we were told that January is quite a busy month for them in this regard.
I strongly recommend calling ahead to check, especially if you’re traveling from far away! It would also be helpful to have this kind of information available on their website.
As for the Shepherd’s Pie, it’s decent, but I probably wouldn’t order it again. It has a lot of mashed potatoes, then a layer of gravy, and finally ground meat with peas. I felt there wasn’t enough meat, and there were too many peas. I’d prefer more meat and perhaps replacing some of the peas with carrots.
Regarding the clam chowder, it’s good and is served with a piece of bread. It’s not quite the same as what you’d get in a seafood restaurant, but for a pub, it’s a decent level of quality.
I loved the fish and chips, the crispiness but lightness of the batter was just right, the fish was tender and juicy. The French fries were perfectly fried and they gave me extra tartar sauce as well. Great food at a reasonable price!
