There aren’t many places left in Buffalo that can take you over 40 years back in time, to when the Italian Festival was on Connecticut Street.

I had to be under 10 the last time i was here , and every single year—like clockwork—one day during the festival it would suddenly rain like crazy. Everyone would scatter, looking for cover. We always ran into this place — a bar/restaurant packed wall to wall with people soaked, drinking beer… me standing there drinking my 25¢ Coke, waiting for the rain to stop so I could get back out to the fun.

Fast forward all these years later…
I found out they’re still open — and walking in felt like stepping into that exact moment. It looks almost exactly the same as it did back then.

I stopped in today and had what might still be the best Italian stuffed shells I’ve ever had. One employee ( named Rosie ) No frills. Just real, historic Italian food and a place that somehow escaped time.

If you’re looking for a true Buffalo throwback, do yourself a favor and check out The Armory Restaurant for lunch, And while you’re there, say hello to Rosie for me ❤️

Been curious about this place for sometime and today presented the opportunity to try it. Came with a couple of work mates. Simple, clean tavern with food and several tables. Old school and homey. Limited daily menu, but something for anyone who loves traditional Italian-American dishes. I am always hesitant to order red sauced dishes out, because I was taught how to make a mean red sauce by an old school Nonna. The Armory did not disappoint and frankly the sauce could easily compete with Mulberry’s , which is my usual go to. Not to sweet, not to acidic, just right seasonings for an everyday red sauce. Thick sliced and fresh, seeded Italian bread and butter, generous portions, lovely personal service and inflation busting price points…OMG, what’s not to love about lunch here!

This place is a gem! Food cooked and served by a lady just like my Nonna. There are usually 3 selections on the menu. By the way there is no menu. Lol. Rosie asks what you want to drink tells you the specials of the day and you sit back and Mangia. Cash only! ATM available.

My wife and I went here on a whim. I wanted some classic Italian comfort food on a cold MLK day. I found this place on Google and decided to try it out. I got the lasagna and my wife got the ravioli with meatballs we washed it down with some Genesee beer. Both dishes were fantastic, the service was great and you cannot beat the price.

This is a local watering hole in the best sense of the phrase. Everyone knows everyone and if you’re a stranger, they treat you like family. The lasagna is worthy of its legendary status. There’s no pretense or fanciness, just authentic Italian comfort food.

This was a pretty good! The food is tastey, the music is awesome and I absolutely loved the decor. We came when it was pretty sparse so that could be why my waitress forgot my lemons? Not that big of deal.My husband had the Carne Asada burrito and he wasn’t too crazy about it. I believe it was the Cali burrito.

Rosie is an absolute doll and took the time to tell us all about the history of the restaurant. Great place for classic Italian cooking in a relaxed atmosphere. We can’t wait to come back!

Limited menu, just what the kitchen is making that day, and what they make is pretty simple, but it’s good. Stuff like shells or spaghetti with sauce, and you can get meatball(s) or sausage(s) with it; beans and greens; lentil soup; peas and macaroni; chicken soup; lasagna; pasta fagiole; etc. Basic simple old fashioned Italian food, served unpretentiously, in unfancy surroundings. Very satisfying to me, but probably not everyone’s thing.

Unbelievable prices for absolutely amazing home-cooking. The pasta e fagioli is a must have, but find out what other specials they have that day, it’s all incredibly delicious!
