Stopped in to see if it was like my husband remembered from when he was a kid in the 80s. The restaurant has a fine dining feel when you walk in. The manager all the way down to the support staff was busy cleaning up and refilling the salad bar and deserts. Our server was prompt and courteous. We had an appetizer and main course. I also had the caramel apple cheesecake. It was amazing the whole experience was top notch and I would definitely recommend ya all stop in and eat at the oldest standing restaurant on route 66! So glad we did!

Was in the Springfield, IL area for work events—on my drive back to St. Louis, I stopped by as I’d heard great things about this historic establishment. Came right before closing so got homemade desserts to-go. The lemon blueberry layered cake & the chocolate cream pie were absolutely delightful! There were at least 9 other desserts to choose from so I’ll definitely return to try more as well as savory entrees. The staff were super friendly and accommodating 🙂

Great atmosphere. I believe the business was moved to it’s current location in 1936. The interior is the same as when it was built. Great service, food prepared quickly, inexpensive. We had very good salads. My husband had cheese cake topped with blueberries. The bite I stole from him was delicious. If I travel this way again I’ll stop by.

I absolutely loved this placed. I miss salad bars so much and this cafe had exactly what I needed. It gave me big time nostalgic vibes. My only regret is I didn’t I have room for dessert.
I had the mahi mahi special and my boyfriend had the Parmesan crusted steak. Both excellent. Sides were on point with loaded baked potatoes. Super yummy.
Kids meals were very large portions and decent quality for the price.
Highly recommend.

I stopped into The Ariston Cafe for dessert and was not disappointed in the least. They have a lot of delicious options. My biggest complaint was trying to decide which one to pick.
The blueberry fluffy cheesecake dessert was a great choice.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating.
It was my first time there, the food I saw other patrons eating looked delicious and the salad bar looked amazing as well.
I will definitely be back to eat a full meal.

Finally got to stop & experience this diner. The staff was warm and welcoming. Ordered the special spaghetti with meat sauce and it came with a salad too. The portion of spaghetti was pretty small and not alot of sauce on it either. I ordered a couple of meatballs to go with my order. Only problem the bottom of the meatballs were so tough I couldn’t even cut thru them, I had to cut the bottoms off. The food was very tasty and it could have been hotter. The garlic toast was hard and not soft with no flavor of being garlic bread. We ordered a couple of desserts to go, as their selection was very good along with great size and great price.
Just wish the portions were a little larger and meatballs while delicious I lost almost half on each one due to the bottom not being edible. Will try again sometime and maybe it will be better. Delicious food and desserts just a little more attention to the quality and quality of entrees.
Please support your locally-owned businesses to keep them in our communities.

We stopped in on way home from Scott AFB. Had late lunch early dinner, salad bar was great. Soups ran out couple times they were slow to refill.
Server was attentive and very helpful.
They sat us in the very back near salad bar would have liked sit by the windows.

Delicious food and great service. I was going for a local gem and found it. The fried chicken was amazing and despite the intimidating name & presentation, hubby loved his Deep Fried Bacon Horseshoe. No time for dessert, even though several looked yummy. (Felt bad, too, because the awesome staff bring out all the desserts for you to look at, which they could skip since the cooler display is the first thing that draws your eye when you walk in).

We came here for dinner because it was near our hotel on our way up to Milwaukee. It was such a delight. The oldest and best Route 66 diner we’ve ever been to. The fried chicken, like many have noted, was the best I’ve had. The black bean soup with sausage was fantastic with a Cuban flair. There were white cloth table cloths and napkins, nice glassware and good wine. Such a nice surprise after 7 hours of driving. The waitress was so friendly and made us feel right at home. Thanks for such a great experience!
