I’ll put it this way: this place is undeniably fascinating. You get an unfiltered view of the locals in what feels like their natural habitat, a setting suspended somewhere several decades in the past. Add a few politically charged red caps, some fervent religious iconography, and the unmistakable echoes of old-fashioned exclusion, and you’re left with a scene that could easily pass for the American South of the 1950s.
I wasn’t “sundowned” out of there, but I was certainly treated as a curiosity. As someone who belongs to the global majority – but a minority in the US – the experience felt less like a simple visit and more like stepping into a time capsule.
The food is acceptable. Service is fine. Servers were polite, but good lord! The patrons.
Take note of the ‘art’ hanging on the wall. It doesn’t all have to be Clydesdale horses and Anheuser-Busch paintings, does it?
If you want to redneck cosplay, this Buds for you!

Excellent food! I came up from out of the county for a new place to try, wow was I impressed.
Everyone was very friendly from the other patrons to the staff. Right away a local recommended I try the ribeye and to get the salad with extra pickles. I am so glad I did. The food was fantastic. So delicious. Top that off with such friendly staff, thanks to Angie and the others I spoke with. Great people. Add the live music and it’s a win, win! Enjoyed listening to Marshall Jones!

They did an amazing job with my unusual request, I placed an order for take out, and got there a little bit early. I did take out because me and my girlfriend were looking for a place to eat and everything was overcrowded, this place had an amazing environment, super calm and not too many people here on a Tuesday night like every where else.
We ended up waiting at the bar and decided we loved the environment and wanted to eat there, and the staff made it happen, the meal was already paid for online and it was being prepared but they sat us at a table and treated us amazing. Our server even gave us a free cheesecake. I will most definitely go back there. 100% the food was amazing, the service was beyond expectations, the place looked sweet, and was a great environment.

We gave The Angus Steakhouse a try for the first time tonight, January 3rd 2026. We loved everything about our experience. Showed up around 6pm on a Saturday night. I love how the restaurant has a “loud area” and a “quiet area”. Im a sucker for a quiet atmosphere, especially in public. I loved the crowd, mostly older people. Me and my bf both had a large ribeye steak, cooked medium. I had a potato and salad with mine. He had onion rings and salad. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned. They did not need any sauce. The meals came with buttery toasted rolls which i loved. The service was great and the price was what was expected considering we ordered one of the most expensive thing on the menu. We wasn’t even aware before arriving there woukd be live music as well. Our server let us know the bass player of Sheryl Crow was there to play, it was a real treat. We loved our experience and will be back. Thank you for such a great evening out.

Last minute stop on our way through Hickory after we saw it mentioned multiple times for great burgers.
For anyone reading reviews of a restaurant, hopefully you are focused on finding great food and great service — and this place had both! Super friendly people and excellent burgers!
If you’re trying to make a political statement via a restaurant google review, maybe find another medium, instead of making burgers into social commentary and calling people names. And maybe instead of sneering and looking down on hardworking people in a small Southern town because they aren’t like you (even when you say they treated you kindly), remember the US is not a monolith. Small town America is a “natural habitat” which still exists, even if you choose to belittle it.
Like I said. Great burgers. Nice people.

Hamburgers are not cheap. Over $10 for a simple burger. Almost $15 for a single deluxe cheeseburger plus one side. Burger was good but the hamburger was too small for the bun. For the price, it should have been larger. Quality has gone down hill to save a few dollars. Last time we go there.

My wife and I have passed by this place countless times and it’s always packed. We decided to stop in and see what all the fuss was about and man was it worth it!! The food was amazing! The staff is great!! Friendly, attentive, and will get you whatever you need, but they don’t hover which is phenomenal! For a family of four we spent $74, but that was also with a very generous tip because the staff was so nice. Well worth every penny spent and we will most definitely be returning!!

The filets that we ordered were cooked perfectly (medium well) and very tender. The baked red potatoes are spectacular. We couldn’t ask for a better meal – no sauces needed because everything was prepared the way it should be! Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone if they want a great steak and friendly service!

The Angus is a great hole-in-the wall kind of place tucked a bit out of the way. The atmosphere is very pleasant and laid back. The food was excellent. We had a party of 9 and were actually served very quickly. Normally you place your order at the register and then they bring it to you. Since we had 9 they actually waited on us and got all our orders perfectly. We brought our own wine and they charged us a reasonable corking fee. I had the filet tips in a mushroom sauce that was awesome. I will return!
