The spicy edamame was so good with the chili paste on it.
Overall, the food quality did not justify either the wait time or the price.
Let’s start with the vegetables. They were charred—and charred is not stir-fried. Stir-frying is a controlled technique that preserves texture and balance through heat management and movement. What I received were bitter, burnt vegetables with no freshness left. When I pointed this out, I was told “that’s how it’s done.” That explanation does not hold up. Calling something “charred” does not make it stir-fried, nor does it excuse the bitterness that ruined the dish. The bitterness even carried into the fish component, which tasted unpleasantly bitter as well.
The staff interaction made the situation worse. When I shared my concerns, the waitress dismissed them outright with visible attitude. There was no attempt to explain, clarify, or even acknowledge the feedback. Shutting down a customer rather than engaging professionally is unacceptable, especially when the issue is incorrect execution.
The egg was another clear miss. It was not properly seasoned and lacked depth or care. It was simply a plain egg presented as something more refined than it actually was. The chashu was equally disappointing: only two thin slices in a $20 bowl, which is unreasonably skimpy for the price.
The soup sealed the disappointment. This was not a proper tonkotsu-style broth. Instead of being rich and balanced, it tasted thin and artificial, heavily boosted with MSG or chemical flavoring, with a sour aftertaste that lingered unpleasantly.
Service practices were also questionable. Tips were requested before the food arrived. Water is self-serve. Despite this, I still tipped $3 upfront, expecting basic professionalism and intending to tip more if the service warranted it. It did not.
Between the high prices, poor execution, dismissive service, and questionable tipping practices, this place fails to deliver value or quality. Charred vegetables are not stir-fried, and dismissing valid feedback does not make the food or service acceptable.
My only complaint is that the butterfly tea that my husband ordered tasted like ice water. There was no flavor at all. I’d be hesitant ordering another tea, but the food was top-notch.
A little hard to see from the road and you could possibly miss the driveway to the parking which is directly in front of the building.
