Sat next to the stone oven , order some food and drinks .
Safe to say that the food was not disappointing! Really enjoy the ham hock with porch egg, Chucky chips. Everything was well executed and taste great! High end taste without the high end price.
Thank you receptionist (female) and waitress for not judging the book for its cover .
If this review help you out if anyway shape or form please give this a thumbs up and give me a follow.
This would greatly be appreciated and help me carrying on doing more review just like this ❤️
Pitty about the clientele. We were sat at a table, and unbeknown to us, was booked out for 6 o’clock.
By 5 o’clock the reserves started to turn up. Local folks, talk about crowding out and filthy looks. It made my wife very uncomfortable. So we left, and found The Dolphin.
£2 a round of 2 drinks cheaper
BTW check bar prices, one round 2 drinks £9:40 next same drinks £10:50.
Thank you.
My partner and I shared the nduja/scotch bonnet and the chicken/paneer. Both were truly superb. The dough had a terrific flavour, but the toppings on each were perfectly balanced and flavoursome. We started with the cauliflower hummus – something we await to recreate!
The service was outstanding, knowledgeable and friendly, without being over the top, again, a perfect balance.
Wine list fantastic and comprehensive (the reason we came here – (father’s a wine merchant!) maître d’ was knowledgeable and showed us the bottle of wine we were curious about.
Atmosphere was warm, welcoming, relaxed, and the use of acoustic tiles on the ceiling work as both an interesting feature and more importantly to reduce the sound in the bar/restaurant.
I am hugely disappointed we are only in Portsmouth for an evening – had we live in the vicinity, we would surely adopt The A Bar as a regular venue.
A venue for everyone, we were made to feel like long standing customers – warm and welcoming.
If ever in Portsmouth again, we will rush back!
It wasn’t very busy when we visited, so we were seated quickly and service was relatively fast. The food was good overall — my partner really enjoyed the fish and chips, and I had the king prawns, which were excellent. The homecut chips were fantastic. We also tried the mussels in their house sauce. While they were cooked perfectly, the flavour just wasn’t quite to my taste. Drinks were great too — I especially liked the sangria.
