Every drink was made with precision and care, and you could tell there was real passion behind it. He didn’t just make cocktails — he created an experience. Each recommendation was spot-on and unlike anything I’ve had before.
You can find good drinks a lot of places, but this was different. This was exceptional. We will absolutely be back and will be recommending this place to everyone.
Thank you Cage!
I ordered an Old Fashioned, because why mess with perfection? It arrived with the kind of care you sometimes only read about: balanced bourbon, a whisper of bitters, probably some carefully muddled sugar, and an orange peel that smelled like someone lovingly squeezed it moments before. Not flashy, just right.
The ambiance matches the drink. The bar leans heavily into the speakeasy / Prohibition-era aesthetic: antique glassware, exposed brick walls, Charlie Chaplin flickering in the background. It has a kind of rustic elegance. Old wood, dim light, comfy corners.
A few caveats, just so you know: it can get busy (especially on weekend nights), and sometimes waiting for drinks stretches a bit longer than you’d hope. But honestly, I didn’t mind — the vibe gives you time to soak it all in.
All told: The 86 Room is the kind of place where time slows, the drink warms your hand, and you leave wishing your next Old Fashioned was being poured already. Highly recommend.
Bar was busy so our group was seated outside and one of our guys went in to order drinks for all of us. A bartender took a compliment the wrong way. Later, while we were seated outside, the bartender approached our table to smoke right by the front door (instead of near an alley way or back where most employees would go). Seemed like bartender was trying to provoke a situation by coming near us. When an apology was offered, the situation escalated—he leaned over the seated customer and yelled in their face instead of de-escalating. Police were ultimately called on the employee, not on the customer. To be clear, the guest was never asked to leave until after the guest called the police.
I strongly encourage management to review their security footage, especially the outdoor footage, to see how staff interact with paying customers. Please also review the footage showing an employee smoking at the front entrance and then leaning over and screaming at a seated guest.
This was an unprofessional, uncomfortable and unnecessary experience. Management, your concept is great, but you need better employees.
Definitely will not be returning.
I have generally enjoyed The 86 Room’s cocktails, atmosphere, and staff, which makes these experiences particularly disappointing. On two separate visits, my interactions with bartender Jade were noticeably uncomfortable and inconsistent with the otherwise professional service at the bar.
On both occasions, all seats were occupied and staff were actively making drinks. After making eye contact, I placed a brief order. Jade responded both times by loudly saying, “HI, HOW ARE YOU?!” in a passive aggressive manner rather than acknowledging the order, which felt unusual in that setting. On the second visit, she repeated this behavior while another bartender was already assisting us, and we were ultimately told our drinks would not be made.
While expressing my frustration to friends near the restroom, I may have been somewhat loud, so I left the bar area and waited outside while others in my group asked staff for clarification. None was provided, and service to members of our group was also declined. We left without further issue.
Given the bar’s otherwise excellent reputation, I hope management reviews this situation, as experiences like this can discourage repeat visits.
