Red flag #1: No visible smoke outside. Red flag #2: No smoke smell inside. Red flag #3: Meat is already mixed with sauce. Decided to give it a go anyway because we’ve heard good things.
Should have trusted my instincts.
First, no table service. Fine, I don’t mind. Next, no music, decorations, or atmosphere of any kind.
And then there’s the train wreck of the food.
Barely any smoke on any of the meat. No seasoning or rub on any of the meat, just sauce. Mac & cheese is bland & obviously mass-produced. Tiniest hush puppies I’ve ever seen (and burnt). One kids meal had 3 huge chicken tenders & the other had two tiny tenders. Half the food was cold. Ordered 3 N. Carolina & 1 S. Carolina, got 1 N. Carolina, 1 S. Carolina, & 2 house BBQ sauces. But the biggest sin of all, THE RIBS STILL HAD THE MEMBRANE ON THEM.
These guys have no idea what they’re doing. The portions are small (except the ribs, I’ll give them that), and it’s all overpriced.
I’d have given it zero stars if I could.
Go to Hank’s instead.

If i could give zero stars on this place i would . The food here is nasty there’s no type flavor taste like they don’t even cook it fresh . The drinks taste like nasty water mixed with the soda . terrible after taste on the ribs, the beans are watery and the pasta taste old . i really recommend that you don’t even step foot into this place the service is terrible and rude .

I am literally writing this review from Hank’s Grille & Bar down the road. My boyfriend and I just threw out our food from the 1835 Smokehouse less than 20 minutes ago. This place was no longer serving food for in-person dinning like it always has and instead was only available for take out. I ordered a pork BBQ which they gave me a small amount of and my boyfriend got less than half cooked ribs that were inedible. On top of that they didn’t even provide us with utensils. After sitting in the parking lot with our food for about 10 minutes, we realize we couldn’t really finish it and we just threw it out. I’m glad we came down the road to an actual restaurant. That’s sat us and hopefully with good food. We won’t ever come back to this place again and it’s terribly disappointing because in years past it’s always been great. Oh well another pandemic casualty…

Zero stars. We should’ve left when they had one entree option and 3 side options. Nothing else was available. But we stayed and realized why the place was practically empty. Everyone in our party had something wrong with their order. Taste was OK, portions all over the place, timing was awful, the hot dog we ordered was 3 inches long and I’m pretty sure it was a burnt pork sausage. Someone else dining around the same time as us didn’t even get meat on his bun, just the bun. Very, very weird. The place looks pretty and the food sucks. Go check out the other small businesses next to this place that might not look as new, but at least they know how to make good food. Not 1835, BLECK!

If I could give zero stars I would. We ordered 2 half slabs of ribs, baked beans, potato salad, and a kids pulled pork which came on a hot do bun. I should’ve stayed away because there was not one car in the parking lot not a customer in sight. Now on to the food. Disgusting with absolutely no flavor at all. Even the fountain drinks had a weird taste. I asked for a partial refund and I’m guessing the lady is the owner stated she can’t do that she can’t cater to everyone’s taste. Which I understand that, but this food was pure garbage and inedible. She was very rude and walked off. I see why theres no business there. Hungry for a penny I hope she uses it to get better quality food and learn how to season. Oh yeah, the ribs still had membrane on they and was wrapped in aluminum foil. They didn’t have plates or anything. Don’t waste your time going to this place.

Sad I had to give this place 4 (3?) stars because the food is amazing. The problem: trash on all the tables, restroom gross, all food regardless of take out or dine-in given in Styrofoam containers and plastic cutlery. A ton of waste going out. Took awhile to get food. That said, excellent taste, was worth the wait. I think the owners might be struggling a bit, which I feel for since they are probably doing their best. Maybe consider hiring a front-of-house helper, orders, cleanup, delivery. Focus on the food and orders coming in from the back.
