The Thai Tomyam was the highlight — perfectly balanced between spicy, sour, and aromatic. The minced pork was juicy and flavorful, stir-fried with fragrant and it pairs so well with rice. The lemongrass fried pork. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.
Overall the flavors felt authentic, will come back when craving THAIFOOD

– Efficient service
– Recommendations from the staff is absolutely on point. She even considers that I have 2 little children with me instead of just recommending whatever is popular
– Foods come out quick
– Comfortable space to eat. Nothing special about décor and settings but it feels like your grandma’s house
– Relatively affordable for Michelin Select Restaurants.
– They give complimentary Prawn Cracker and it’s very delicious to munch on while you wait for your food.

– Ordered:
1. Thai Braised Pork Knuckle (48RM) [4/5] – The meat falls off the bone and they don’t stick to your teeth. Honestly, I rated it 4/5 just because it tastes a little like Chinese style Pork Knuckle, but that’s a preference thing. The portion is huge! Keep in mind.
2. Stir Fry Clam with Basil (32RM) [4/5] – We asked it to be non-spicy because we had children and they delivered. The portion is generous and no clammy smells to the clams.
3. Melindjo Leaves with Egg (28RM) [5/5] – Such a simple dish but so so so delicious and goes so well with rice.
4. Ee San Spicy Soup (48RM) [5/5] – Similar to Tom Yum but it’s spicy and it’s such a good palate cleanser.
5. Thai Iced Green Milk Tea (9RM) [5/5] – Thai Milk Tea using Jasmine Tea and it’s not too sweet that it overpowers the whole drink.

– Will definitely come back again to try their other menu and bring my parents

Mid tasting Thai food. The taste is not really strong nor packed with much flavours. Food is clean tasting and hygienic. Portion is slightly small for the price.

Otak-otak was good and green tomyam seafood was unique. Other than that, it wasn’t really outstanding. If you can’t take spice, this place would be suitable.

I’ve visited here several times and really love their authentic Thai dishes. The flavours are consistently delicious, and it’s no surprise they’ve been Michelin-recommended for four years. They even serve complimentary crispy prawn crackers, which is a nice touch. Highly recommended!

No regard for their customers or health and safety!
This sounds hard to believe but this restaurant served prawn crackers, sweet chilli dip and one other pot of, which looked like sauce, without explanation.

This sauce in fact turned out to be methanol and was left on our table for 10 minutes before the waitress came over to light it for our soup.
We ended up dipping our prawn crackers into this “dip” and consuming methanol, which resulted in a hospital trip for 3 of our party!
Once we realised it was some form of lighter fluid we asked the restaurant what they had served and they provided details of the bottle – see attached images of the “dip” they served and the bottle of the product.

The waitress searched chatGPT and then proceeded to tell us to attend hospital. We asked for the manager, who told us this has happened previously. I’m amazed this has happened before yet the restaurant hasn’t changed their procedures and continues to put their customers in danger!!

The manager laughed when we told her what happened and refused to ring a doctor until we pressured her for answers.

This restaurant urgently needs to educate their staff on the dangers of what they are serving and how poor communication can have such detrimental affects.

Luckily we all survived but who knows what could have happened…

I’ll be informing the Michelin guide of our experience!

Thara authentic is a Thai restaurant located in the heart of Georgetown at Lorong Prangin.
Thara Penang, a Thai restaurant located in Lorong Prangin in the heart of Georgetown, opened its doors in July 2022 and has quickly become a favourite among Thai food enthusiasts. Whether you are a meat lover, seafood fan or enjoy greens, the menu offers something for everyone.

Thai food lovers would certainly love this restaurant. From its Facebook Page, it seems like its associated with ThongLor Thai which was previously located at Icon City, Bukit Mertajam. The new venture- Thara, offers a wide range of Thai delights that are not new to Malaysians from the commonly seen Thai Salad to Tom Yum, Kheng Som or various Thai stir fries. The prices are on the higher side considering the small serving portion but they do offer quality in return. Comfortable space with authentic, delicious Thai food if you don’t mind to pay a little more. The newly opened Thara can be found at Lorong Prangin, a few doors away from Ichi Tong.

Thara Thai restaurant, With over 15 years of culinary experience under the chef belt, the Thai chef excels in authentic cooking from his home country, with the freshest seafood being his strong suit. In the lofty room decorated in soothing shades of green, try his array of tom yum soup variations with different seafood. The miang kam is a must – fresh betel leaves and sweet miang kam sauce make it a great appetiser.

To start, Miang kham is a fun and flavourful way to whet the appetite. Fresh betel leaves are served as wraps for various condiments – toasted coconut flakes, peanuts, lime, shallots, cabai burung (bird’s eye chillies), hea bee (dried shrimp) and ginger. A thick, syrupy sauce is provided on the side to bind the flavours together. Enjoying these little parcels makes for the perfect appetiser as you wait for the rest of the meal. There is also har mok talay ma phao – a Thai-style otak-otak served in a young coconut . This dish included fresh seafood (prawns, fish and squid) infused with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal and other aromatic herbs and spices.
One wouldn’t miss the Thai classic, green curry chicken with Thai apple eggplants (gaeng keow wan kai). Prepared with chicken thigh, the meat was tender and the curry had a lovely consistency

Food was top notch and authentic Thai food experience. Service could be better as no staff was around to even add on orders. Definitely a worthy Michelin guide restaurant. The pork knuckles to perfection. Cozy ambiance.
