It was our first time being here and found the place randomly. We had a friendly service. Just got surprised when we paid for the bill. We had lunch for two people and we had a bill for $60 before tips. Water and desert were brought by the host / we didn’t order but we were charged for. When I was trying to match what I had with then price on menu, I just found that there are no prices on the menu in this restaurant. When I asked for the detailed bill, everything was listed but a lot of items were called as open item and just had a price for it. Food was okay, but will not come again.

Authentic Kerala cuisine.
Edit 2 years later: Unfortunately as owners have changed multiple times, the chefs have too. Things seem to have just become a tad too spicy. Perhaps there is enough clientele looking for that level of spiciness, however my family have decided it’s no longer our go to place..

Excellent food! Was craving for authentic food from Kerala and this place delivered!! We ordered, fish curry, chicken curry, meals, appam, parotta and vegetable stew. Loved all of it but my personal fav was the appam!! The best I’ve had. Tasted like homemade! I also loved how courteous and lovely the guy at the counter was.

Some of the best Kerala food I’ve tried in a very long time. I highly recommend the appam with tomato/egg curry as well as the beef curry cooked with pieces of coconut. If you like fish then definitely try some Kerala style fried sardines, it’s the best. You can even hear the voice of an ammachi cooking away in the kitchen… We ate more in one sitting than we had for the past two days and happily went into a food coma!

This is a hidden jewel of a traditional South Indian and Kerala style Indian food. Highly recommend you call ahead if you do take out as they tend to get busy especially evenings and weekends. Recommend going with waitress suggestions for the lunch/dinner box (Thali) with whatever meat option you desire (or veggie option). They accommodate your every taste! Try the beef and Porotta.

Editing – we are very disappointed with thanima and I’m lowering their stars for this particular reason- They promised us sadya for onam and until last min, made us wait and finally stopped picking up calls. We had invited over 20 people and was dependent on sadya from them. But they completely ghosted us. They didn’t care to even apologize about this incident. Ever since this, we do not prefer to support the restaurant as we don’t find them dependable and honest.
Their food might be good. But they cannot cater to many people and do not like to acknowledge it.
The restaurant “Indian Palace” came to our last min rescue with great sadya for our guest.Their sadya was great!

About their food- We heard of this restaurant from our friend in Dallas and thought we would check it out as we’re not very satisfied with the Kerala restaurants around here…

Thanima is a quaint restaurant, very neat.

On our first visit, we had meals, chicken biryani, Porotta and beef fry; we were mind blown by the authenticity of the food….
The Porotta is extremely fresh, soft and flaky.
So is the pal appam- flawless and delicious!
We have been visiting Thanima almost every weekend now even though we are 50mins away from the restaurant. The food is rich, authentic and absolutely delicious!

The stuff you MUST TRY here- pal appam, chicken curry, porotta- beef fry, kappa/chakka puzhukku and fish curry and Biriyani.
