Thali – the Indian word for this platter. It will have small bowls – or “khatoris” – with vegetables, curries, and milk products, as well as rice, pulses, bread and a desserts. Its components correspond to the modern day food pyramid, yet its beginnings were part of ancient Hindu cultural traditions. It is believed to have its basis in Ayurveda, the science behind yoga. The idea behind a Thali is to offer all the 6 different flavours of sweet, salty, bitter, sour, astringent and spicy on one single plate. Thali has award-winning chef, Joe Thottungal, and his long-time chef de cuisine, Rajesh Gopi, at the helm. They have 6-7 dishes for each Thali. Vegan and gluten-free options are also available.
Contemporary institution specializing in traditional thali & other Indian delicacies.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance when parking outside (we were originally heading somewhere else) and noticed it was packed with people, which is always a good sign! Only one table was free, so we decided to give it a try, and we’re so glad we did.
It was our first time trying thali, and we really enjoyed the variety of flavours. Every dish was delicious, service was excellent, food was served quickly, and the ambience was warm and comfortable. Considering how busy it was, I had expected the food to take a lot longer, but it didn’t!
Overall, a great experience. Would definitely recommend & we’ll be back again!

This is overall my favourite Indian restaurant in the city. I probably come here every month and a half. The flavours in thali never disappoint and both the vegetarian and the non-vegetarian options are always so delicious and filling. I even picked up their cookbook. Their mango lassi is also top-tier. I’ve tried their mango cocktails, and they were great as well. Always so good highly recommend.

Food and service were amazing! Will definitely go again. The weather was -30C the day we went and the restaurant set up resulted in a giant cold draft coming through the front tables every time the door opened – which was often. Many patrons were dining in our jackets. Suggest the restaurant hang curtains to separate the entrance from the dining area.

90% of the food was fantastic and very flavourful. There were a few sour notes however. The crab cakes, while made with real crab, had a couple small shells in them, and the texture was not unlike cat food. Nice sauce with them, but for $17 and two crab cakes they’re not worth it.
I would recommend the chicken and lamb thali. Both were fantastic. The flavours were strong and varied and all worked well together. I don’t think the fried chickpea thing was good at all, and the spinach grain salad was just okay, but everything else was a delight.

My wife and I recently had lunch here. The thali concept was cool and the execution was delicious: My wife enjoyed a vegan Thali while I devoured my vegetarian one. The decor wasn’t as fancy as Coconut Lagoon’s – a favourite dining spot of ours – but it was nice just the same; the restaurant wasn’t busy at the time we were there so it wasn’t noisy and we got served quickly; and the waitress was very pleasant and helpful.

Had the wonderful experience of visiting Thali on a Friday evening. Everything in the Thali (non-veg) was absolutely delicious! It’s a great introduction to authentic Indian cuisine – more specifically from Kerala. It’s always a good sign when you can smell the food from a few steps outside! The interior is modern and immaculate. I noticed that the food is served in copper thalis – perhaps for Ayurvedic reasons. I appreciate that the owner thought beyond food and even in a modern city, tradition is kept and followed. Strongly recommend!

The food is amazing, beautifully presented, rich in taste and flavour. Four of us came for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the repast. Beautifully appointed surroundings, efficient service, but not obsequious, it was a delight from start to finish. There was enough variety to suit everyone in our party. We will be back.

Great food, not cheap but not super expensive either, the portions are bigger than they look like. I had the beef curry and it was great, it is very rare to see beef at an Indian restaurant so it was a nice surprise. The papardums were light and crispy and the sauce that came with them gave them a great flavor. I would come back.
On that note, not a fan of having to pay 4$ for the plate to come with rice when it is meant to be eaten together

It was our first time at Thali, we ordered crabcakes for the appetizer and for the main meal we chose the namesake dish, traditional thali with protein options. The feast we received was everything we could ask for and more! I ordered my thali with the salmon option and without dairy, and they accommodated my request without issue. If your date has dietary restrictions, this spot is a sure bet for alternative choices without compromising on flavour and variety.

The first thing I noticed when when walking into this restaurant was the thick and luxurious napkins. I can only imagine these napkins are capable of absorbing full oceans of liquid. Any spill is handled with grace and opulence at Thali. If I was a small rodent I would love to snuggle up under the napkins as they would keep me very warm.
A fish would be happy eating here (glub blub blub)! The speed at which the water was replenished was incredible. The minute we finished a bottle, another was ready to replace it. We drank so much water we had to pull over for Killian to relieve himself of all the liquid in his small pea sized bladder.
Great evening. The Arriba Aruba truly made the night!
