Takeaway review.

I rarely write reviews. I order the food, I eat the food, I move on with my life. I am, by any reasonable standard, a seasoned veteran of the takeaway circuit — a man who has eaten enough of them that I had a heart attack three weeks ago. So when I say this was bad, I say it with experience.

We were told the food would take an hour. Annoying, but fine. Over two hours later it finally arrived — stone cold. Not lukewarm. Not “could do with a quick blast in the microwave.” Stone cold. The kind of cold that suggests it’s had time to reflect on its life choices.

The real shock, though, wasn’t the temperature — it was the taste. Or rather, the absence of it. Bland doesn’t quite cover it. Five dishes and even the rice managed to be devoid of flavour. It takes real commitment to make Thai food — famously vibrant, fragrant, layered — taste like anonymous beige sadness in a plastic tub.

And for this experience, the grand total came to around £75 delivered. That five such poor dishes, including rice, can command that price will remain one of life’s great mysteries.

What truly perplexes me are the five-star reviews dotted amongst the one- and two-star ratings. I can only assume they visited a different establishment, or that ‘Thailand Number 1’ occasionally operates as a social experiment in expectation management. I dread to think what Thailand Number 2 would be like given the full bore disappointment of the number one kitchen.

If zero stars were an option, I would use them. As it stands, one star feels generous.

Deeply disappointing. Never again.

Fantastic food and plenty of it. We went for the set menu A and it was bang on. Much discussion on what the best dish was, and we ultimately couldn’t agree as they all tasted great

We visited the restaurant for a Saturday evening meal. The atmosphere was beautiful, the staff was so attentive and polite. The meal was ample and so delicious. Would highly recommend we will definitely be returning and bringing family and friends along with us. The food was Very aromatic, so tasty and full of flavour. I had the Duck and it was cooked to perfection. My husband had the jungle curry beef and it was quite Spicy but that was perfect for his taste! The wine was lovely and my husband had a shandy as he was driving. Definitely worth a visit!

Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food came out quickly and the customer service was great. They recommended dishes that were more appropriate for children, and their portion sizes were plentiful. The atmosphere wa peaceful and quiet, and it was very clean.

We had the chicken satay as a starter, which was served with a delicious peanut sauce. For mains, we had the tom yam soup, Pad Thai, and a sweet fried fish dish, all of which were delicious! The food tasted cosy and warming. Finished with the fried banana desert which was crispy and really good.

Definitely a place I would come back to!

The food here was excellent and cooked to a very high standard, with great flavour and quality throughout. Everything we ordered was beautifully prepared and presented. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The service was relaxed but professional, which added to the overall experience. We really enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend, and return here again.

Stopped by Thailand No.1 Matlock craving Thai food en route back to London after a day out in the Peak District.

Food was absolutely amazing with authentic fresh flavours.
Recommend the Tom Yum and Pad Thai’s as well as the fried fish.

The staff were really friendly and very welcoming. Super helpful on menu recommendations.

The summer cocktail that is currently on offer is highly recommended. The pink gin with raspberry was super refreshing.

Would definitely come back if passing thru.

Food is really really good here. We ordered beef pad kra paw, seafood vermicelli salad, and duck charcoal hotpot. I forgot to take all food photos because we were all hungry. A must order is beef pad kra paw, it is smoky and tastes really good.

Beautiful restaurant serving authentic Thai cuisine.

Everything about this restaurant is excellent: the decor is elegant but inviting, the food is superb, and the staff are fantastic.

There’s plenty of options for vegetarians and diners with dietary restrictions. Dishes can also be adjusted according to your personal preference.

Special mention and thank you to the lady (sorry I didn’t get your name) who was so lovely and made my day extra special when I told her it was my birthday. Your kindness was very much appreciated.

I highly recommend visiting Thailand No.1 Matlock, but I would probably reserve a table if visiting at the weekend as I have a feeling it gets incredibly busy!

Absolutely fantastic!
If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Matlock, this is the place!
It’s got everything you could want with the best Thai food we’ve had since visiting Thailand! authentic flavours and style, stylish environment, good prices and friendly staff.
They have a great varied menu,
Curries, rice dishes, noodle dishes and authentic saladsl a big selection of vegan and vegetarian options with quite a lot of the menu being able to made gluten free too!
I’d 100% recommend booking as well as it was full right until closing when we visited

We will definitely be visiting here again! 10/10

It was alright. The interior was beautiful and decorated with a good taste. The food…the starter probably was the best part and house wine was very delicious, what regards the main dish then it probably was down to not knowing the specifics of the Thai cuisine. Therefore I have to admit that I have tasted better. If you choose to try this place then you’re looking at around £40 with the drinks included.
