The chive cake, Goong Salong (shrimp roll), shrimp drunken noodles, and pork belly Penang were packed with bold flavors.
My spice level is a 2, ️ ️because the
4 ️ ️ ️ ️once had my ears ringing!
No matter if I dine in or carry out, the shrimp are always plump, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The Thai iced coffee, was the perfect sweet finish. Yum!
The menu was pretty comprehensive as Thai food goes. I usually order pad thai and yellow curry but we decided to try some different things. First, I tried the Tom Kha Gai soup and it tasted so bad we couldn’t even finish it, way too much fish sauce and lacking the coconut milk taste. Then we tried the Khao Soi based on the reviews and description. The sauce was ok but the noodles weren’t like egg noodles as I would expect, more like ramen. And there wasn’t much meat in the dish. We ordered spicy level 2 and it was too spicy (and I like hot food). Last we tried Drunken Noodles based on the good reviews. I don’t have anything to compare them to since this was my first time getting this dish but the noodles were so slimy I could hardly eat them. And the rest of the dish was lacking. I will definitely not be trying these again.
The prices were above average but it is in a nicer location of town.
Based on my experience I will be trying some other Thai restaurants before I return to Thai Street.
I paid $24.18 for 2 orders of food from Thai Street: Heaven Pork and Moo Ping Nom Sod. The food itself was delicious, but the experience was severely disappointing.
Very small portions: Both the pork and the rice were you-know-what-for-the-price tiny. If you’re hungry, do not order from Thai Street.
Minimal garnish: They included only half a leaf of lettuce and a single sliver of red pepper. It felt like an afterthought rather than a meal.
Value vs. cost: I feel completely ripped off for what I paid. For $24.18, I expected more substance and proper portioning.
Bottom line: Great flavors, but the portion sizes and presentation ruin the experience. I will not be ordering from Thai Street again. If you’re hungry or ordering for more than one person, look elsewhere.
Thai Street is a counter service business in the Broadway Market food hall. The menu is displayed up above on a letter board and also on laminated sheets. There’s plenty of seating nearby and outside. On the Monday yesterday, Thai Street was one of few counters open which suited my tastes just fine.
The food:
Everything on the menu is tempting. I selected pad see ew with a level 1 spice (for safety). Food came out quickly and hot! The noodles were perfect, slipping through the sweet sauce without sticking together. I could have gone a little spicier since level 1 was more sweet than spicy. The broccoli was not plentiful, but there was a good deal of tofu that was well cooked without being dry. The flavors were so scrumptious that I had to remind myself of our dessert plans to keep from licking my plate clean.
The service:
Quick, efficient, and communicative. They took our phone numbers to text us when food was ready. I don’t think we waited more than five minutes. It seems that Thai Street does a brisk carry-out business as well!
Next time:
I really need to get a bubble tea.
