We were the only diners in the restaurant. We waited for someone to come out of the back to seat us. Once we were shown to a table we waited another 10 minutes to place our order. The person in charge only took our appetizer order. Then we waited another 10 minutes to order our drinks.
I was served a beer that was expired, and I asked politely for a new one.
The appetizer sampler was okay. The crispy duck rolls were cold and not crispy.
We ordered two types of entrees and they came out at different times.
I had the Hot Beach Special and while it was hot and the seafood was crispy, the basil garnish looked to have been freeze-dried.
Their music selection is interesting- a scenic landscape montage on the TV which made all of us feel sleepy! Maybe better for a spa setting.
I have been to Thai Gourmet a few times in the past, but this time was disappointing.

We were looking for something different; was a long weekend and we really didn’t feel like cooking dinner at home (then cleaning the kitchen). A friend asked if we had ever been to Thai Gourmet Restaurant in Mechanicsville, which is a fairly short drive away. We had never been there and decided to go.
So happy that we did. The owner is super nice; she said that she began running the restaurant 2 years ago after working there for her uncle for 17 years prior. She took a couple minutes to walk us through the different types of things on the menu, and then we ordered. Green teas for both, Chicken Satay appetizer, Bangkok Chicken (light on the spice) for my wife and General Tso’s Chicken (medium spicey) for me.
Wow. Not only was the service friendly and expedient, but the dishes were outstanding. Tender, tasty, and every component was super fresh (meats, veggies, rice, etc.)
The General Tso’s was probably the best I have ever had. You know, sometimes you order it and they serve it drowned in sauce, or overcooked. Not here. Perfectly sauced so the chicken remained crispy on the outside but very tender inside. Medium heat? Yup… was wearing collared shirt and the collar did get a bit damp! LOL. Loved it.
So glad that Thai Gourmet was recommended to us. They were doing a very busy carryout business while we were there so we know that we will return as both sit-down and carryout customers in the future.

We brought our three children here and they were so friendly and accommodating. They clearly were running around (I think just two people working), but the woman who served us made sure to bring out a toy to distract our hangry toddler and crayons and coloring sheets for our oldest two. The food was great and out quickly. We also left our credit card and she ran out to our car to return it before we drove away.

I had a lot of friends come meet me for my birthday. From start to finish the service and food were phenomenal. The staff is very attentive and the night could not have been better. Highly recommend!

Everything about this place is great. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere is very Cosy, and the service was exceptional. We got the pad thai, pad cashew, and red curry, all of which were full of flavor and good portion for the price. There was a little music box at our table that sung when cranked, how charming! Will be back soon!

I’ve been going to Thai Gourmet for years and it was always delicious. Since the new owners took over after covid, the food is not the same. The last 4 or 5 times, once had hair in rice, and the other times either overcooked, tasting burned or meat was tougher than beef jerky. I decided to give one more try tonight and ordered Bankok chicken and the chicken it so tough that I can’t chew it. I’d call and complain but like the past, nothing will be done. Order with caution. Owner is super friendly. I think they’re understaffed so thats why food gets extremely overcooked.

The owner is so nice! She went over everything with me. I ordered vegan dishes for myself, drunken beef noodle for my sister,2 kinds curry, Pad Thai veggies, crispy veggie rolls. She gave me a glass of water while I was waiting. Cash is preferred *cash moves everything around me* They do accept credit cards. You can dine in, carry out & you can have it delivered.

Was told by the last owner that the new owner did not know how to cook. He lied and I have avoided this absolutely one of if not the best Thai food restaurants around. Food was fantastic, and lots of pride in its presentation.
