Food:
The flavors were developed and spicing level was enjoyable. The lunch spring roll was a little too oily.
Service:
The waiters were excellent and very attentive.
Atmosphere:
Clean restaurant area and bathroom. Very fun and invited vibe.
Parking: Ample parking. I came over the lunch hour so it wasn’t full in the parking lot.
Started with an order of the spicy cheese rolls, which were very familiar but seemed to be lacking the spice I remember. Also got an order of the fried okra, crab fried rice, and cashew chicken. Went with medium heat on everything, but it seems a little more mild than I remember? Maybe that’s my own taste being different.
Regardless, I am so happy a comparable Thai restaurant has opened up. While it’s not the exact same, there are many similarities to the original Thai Gourmet. They obviously set a high bar and Thai Garden has its work cut out for them. I’ll be back!
There is plenty of parking, and the grand entry is welcoming. There are a few elegant function rooms, and spaces convenient for dancing and live music. While I was there, folk dancers and a singer were there for entertainment and it was amazing.
I had only appetizers that were presented beautifully, and they had authentic flavor! I would definitely visit again to try entrées. The menu is quite affordable.
Thank you, Thai Garden, for the traditional experience! You are a great representative of your country and I hope you do well! Happy one year anniversary!
Enjoy!
Firstly, we were seated immediately, and from the moment we sat to the minute we left, the staff was extremely attentive and helpful. We placed a fairly sized order and the food arrived in a very timely manner. Not only that, but I also ordered food to go when we were almost done with our meal and it arrived in good time.
Now onto the food – my go tos for Thai food are drunken noodles and green curry.
Thai Tea – 10/10
Highly recommend this sweet drink to wash your spicy Thai food down with!
Spicy cheese rolls – 10/10
Extremely rich cheese flavor with a spicy kick to it. Absolutely loved the sauce as well.
Shrimp rolls – 9/10
They are exactly like the cheese rolls but with tempura shrimp instead. Very good but of course the cheese rolls outshined them a little.
Green Curry with Chicken (Medium Heat) – 10/10
Absolutely amazing, rich and slightly sweet coconut flavor curry. I added bamboo to mine (the way Thai Gourmet used to have it) and paid a bit extra for it which was very worth it.
Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) with Shrimp (Hot Heat) – 10/10
Another delectable dish by Thai Garden. This dish is fully savory and be prepared for the heat.
Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) with Chicken (both Medium and Hot) To Go – 10/10
Medium is still spicy for this dish! If you don’t eat spicy food, order mild.
The portion sizes for all dishes are extremely generous.
I saw a review saying Thai Garden is not as spicy as Thai Gourmet was, which is why I ordered the Hot heat level for the noodles. This is sadly a very inaccurate review – the food was extremely spicy as Thai food usually is. I would recommend Medium to Mild heat for most dishes, but it was fun to experience the Hot level. I ordered 2 entrees of drunken noodles to go (one Hot and one Medium) and even the Medium is still spicy for this dish.
The green curry is not as spicy in Medium because it is coconut milk based.
I am disappointed to see many reviews comparing the restaurant to Thai Gourmet. I saw a response to the reviews by the management saying while they are staffed with half of the Thai gourmet employees, they are not trying to perfectly imitate Thai gourmet. I think this is the right approach – they wish to do similar yet unique take on the food and that is perfectly reasonable to do.
All in all, I was extremely pleased with my experience here and I can’t appreciate the wait staff enough. This was by far my best Thai food experience so far.
We gave it a try and didn’t get disappointed, the taste was completely awesome. The food was delicious from chicken satay, red curry, Pad Thai, chicken fried rice, roti canai everything was top notch. Fresh flavourful dishes!
Where they lack a bit finesse , they deliver unapologetically in taste and value.
Lunch came with vegetable spring roll and salad. there was so much of salad leaf, I used it to roll the chicken satay in and made a roll :).
Chicken satay was ginormous.. the peanut sauce was a bit more buttery and had an interesting texture.
i loved the Pad kee mao noodles and the beef was juicy tender full on flavor.
Green curry was good.. the eggplant I it was heavenly, but I was so full.. I left most for later. Even on medium heat, it didn’t feel as hot as how it would have been in Thai gourmet days.
They brought out some candies and a rose for Valentine day.. it was a complete treat. Definitely coming back for more.
Now, the important part, the food is not the same based on what we ordered.
Chicken satay tasted the same as it used to be and was good.
The skinny cheese rolls that we used to order are now typical egg roll like rolls with cheese and veggies, and sadly, disappointing.
The coconut soup was always my favorite dish. it came in a much larger portion here (enough to feed three people) but the flavor was too sweet and tasted like a can of coconut milk. Needed more of the sour taste that comes with the regularly sweet/sour taste I’m used to. Maybe more fish sauce. Maybe more chicken broth. Maybe more lime juice. I’m not really sure but it just didn’t taste the same. ♀️
The pad Thai was way too sweet, tasted like straight peanut sauce on the noodles. I did not like it at all and it’s usually my go-to order.
The drunken noodles: I used to receive it with Chinese broccoli, but thai garden served it with regular broccoli. Not a big deal because I asked the server and he said I could request it changed next time. It was not bad, and similar to the taste of Thai gourmet’s version, but felt like the protein was accompanied by a small amount of noodles instead of it being a noodle dish.
The chicken fried rice was ordered to go and was very bland, another disappointment.
All in all it wasn’t a horrible experience. I do wish the food was exactly the same as Thai Gourmet, but that was very hopeful thinking with a new restaurant and new ownership coming in. If they can get the same tastes back to these staple dishes, I’d come back, but otherwise it just wasn’t enough for me to enjoy when comparing to the previous restaurant’s food.
