Went to Esaan on their opening day at the new location. We’d never been to the old one so this was a pleasant surprise. We got egg rolls, drunken noodles and khao man gai. While the khao man gai wasn’t what it would be in the streets of Bangkok(we didn’t expect it to be either) and the chicken was a bit over cooked, it was still decent. This is the best Thai we’ve had in Maine. The drunken noodles had that perfect wok smokiness and the eggrolls were nice and crispy. We’re definitely coming back for more.

Essan is truly the best place if you’re looking for fabulous Thai food. We order the chicken pad Thai every time and it’s to die for. The flavors are amazing, fresh and always hot. We get it custom made and it has never been wrong. The staff are wonderful and so sweet and friendly. It’s a great little hole in the wall. You won’t be disappointed.

This is the best place for Thai food. I just visited and had to leave a review! There was so much care put into each dish, nice portion sizes, and the service was great. The food came out really quickly and we were super impressed with how tasty it was! The crab rangoons are amazing if you enjoy those, but regardless of what you order, you are in for an authentic and delicious Thai meal.

Ate there on a Saturday for lunch. The place was rather quiet patron wise… But the food was absolutely delicious. No frills, just wholesome deliciousness. Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu.
So far my favorite Thai restaurant in the city!

Excellent Thai food! We came in on a Tuesday for lunch and it was a one woman show, I’m not sure her name but she greeted us, seated us, cooked all the food and served us! We ordered crab rangoon, moo ping (pork skewers), papaya salad, pad thai, drunken noodle and green curry. Everything was delicious, hard to pick a favorite, I would order any of those dishes again and will be going back the next time I’m in town. Portland has always had great Thai food and Esaan is truly the BEST!

Absolutely a must-visit if you are in Portland. I felt like I was teleported to Thailand when I took the first spoonful of the papaya salad. Super authentic place and flavours are on point. Go visit now! And order a Thai ice tea while you’re at it. 🙂

Legitimately great local spot for authentic Thai. This place and Ka Chai in Thomaston are some of the best you can get in the NE. Have eaten here for dinner, lunch, takeout and if you can swing it for lunch, Mama Tim will take your order based on what you like and whip something up just like mama never made. Beer/wine selection is eclectic, good, fairly priced. My only complaint were the loosely rolled spring rolls but who cares? The menu lists many of the standards but ask about their specials which are truly special.

Thai Essan is an incredible addition to the Thai food scene here in Portland. Their dumplings are transcendent, with a perfect balance of sweet and savory. The Tom Kha displays a complex layering of flavors and the shrimp are fresh and perfectly cooked. 15% off for lunch – such a deal. I love this place and so will you

Food is great although the spiciness was uneven. This did not detract from the tastiness of the food. Everything was fresh and alive. A bit more expensive than other options in town but well worth the price. We did take out but the ambience in the restaurant was very good.

This place is fantastic! Great to have a local take out/delivery Thai place that hits the spot every time. My wife and I order from here on a more-or-less weekly basis and have never been disappointed. Ben, one of the owners and a veteran, delivers the food each time. It’s pleasant to have a friendly hello and familiar smile along with a delicious meal. Definitely recommend this place if you haven’t tried it yet!
