I love the food from both restaurants equally. The house made chili oil is so flavorful, perfect to drizzle over pad thai.
The staff at Thai Basil are very friendly and accommodating.
Due to the location and convenience, this has become my favorite place for Thai food.
Food was a bit “spicy” (asked for mild, seemed medium). While waiting owner gave us a ‘complimentary’ thai iced-tea, which was super tall & very sweet/delicious the service_server was efficient & friendly!
We had the crispy tofu app, green curry with chicken and black pepper prawns. We had medium spice and it was perfect, but does add a bit of heat. Would recommend all three dishes. We are so lucky to have Thai Basil in SE Boise!
I’ve visited this place 4 separate times over the span of the last 3 months (2x dinner, 1x carry out, and 1x lunch). Yes, the food is good, but the service is consistently poor; this is not the type of restaurant where you can expect to receive service in an expeditious or reasonable amount of time.
I would say avoid this place completely for dinner if you’re famished, or have another commitment (i.e. movie, show, etc.) post dinner. On average expect to wait +- 60 minutes after you’ve placed your order, and meals aren’t always hot.
Most recently for dinner, two of us sat for 16 minutes before our server even greeted us or brought over water. It was steady, but not slammed as there were many open tables throughout the small restaurant. Our server didn’t check on us once, didn’t refill water, didn’t update us on the status of our dinner, etc. Some of the wait staff seem to have a little bit of an attitude. I try not to take it personal because they seem to be trying to sort issues at large within their operations.
On a previous visit, I witnessed a major blow up between staff and a table of two patrons where they stormed out of the restaurant; from what I gathered the patrons left due similar grievances I shared above.
In my opinion, many of the issues boil down to poor management and lack of support for wait staff. If you have the patience to wait for their good food, go for it! If you don’t, do yourself and them a favor and go to another local Thai restaurant in town.
On a high note, lunch and carry out seemed to be fine. Service seemed a little better for lunch than it is for dinner.
