It’s not every day you see a family-owned restaurant that’s been around for 40 years. They are currently doing takeout only but if they’ve been around for that long, they must be doing something right. And unsurprisingly, the food here was just as good as some of the most highly regarded Thai restaurants in the city. The spice levels and flavors were undeniably authentic.
The pad kee mao was nicely charred and the noodles were satisfyingly chewy. The nam tok had smoky grilled beef in an incredibly addictive sauce and sprinkled with a generous amount of toasted rice. Pla koong was a particularly interesting dish. It has the same sauce as the nam tok but was additionally loaded with various herbs, making it much more refreshing and complex. The shrimps were slightly raw in the center almost like ceviche. Texturally, they were softer and more flexible, with more of a chew rather than the firm snap of cooked shrimp. Flavorwise, the natural sweetness of the shrimps came through much more clearly. The papaya salad was alright and ended up being the weakest dish of the meal.
I have seen they occasionally hand out watermelon when it’s in season. Now I have another reason to come back and test my luck.

This is one of my favorite spots now. They only do takeout 4-8PM. The bag was heavy with good portions and the food tastes like a home cooked meal. The crab fried rice was packed with big pieces of crab and the Pad Ka Praw was flavorful. The Plaa Koong was really good as well, almost like a ceviche.

The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming! I ordered the Thai basil over rice with beef and it was soooo good! Super spicy, flavorful, and a nicely sized portion. Some of the best Thai food I’ve had in Chicago.

They were so sweet. Hubby and I got take out and they gave us extra spice packets to add in case we wanted more spicy. Crab fried rice was really good and so was the massaman curry. Highly recommend. They gave us watermelon as well without charge!

This is our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. The food is delicious and service feels like a warm hug (even when picking up). Get the homemade dumplings – you won’t be disappointed!

A great find. A humble hole-in-the-wall with friendly service and expertly prepared, delicious food. The noodle soup I had with duck was so hearty and satisfying, with homemade noodles and a rich, interesting broth. A great stop for after the airport.

gushing about my take out order – I got the fried rice with yellow curry and fried spring rolls. everyone says it feels like someone’s parents making a home cooked meal for you, and it really does. the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. the man who gave me my order was very sweet and helpful, suggesting ways to combine sauces for best flavor and making sure I got everything I asked for. he also provided me with a huge slice of fresh watermelon, specifically to cool down the “thai heat” and it was delish.

I’ve tried dozens of Thai restaurants across Chicago and Thailand. So trust me when I say this place is OUTSTANDING.
Came in on a whim hoping to sit down for some khao soi on a Wednesday evening with my partner. The owner greeted us and was immediately incredibly hospitable. It turned out to be takeout only for most days of the week so we didn’t get to sit down, and unfortunately khao soi wasn’t on the menu BUT he asked the chef for us and she and him were able to make it for us anyway.
Keep in mind I don’t know if they’ll be able to do this for anyone at anytime, but if you love khao soi this one is fantastic. I hope if others ask for it maybe they will put it back in the menu.
We’ve been to Thailand and tried khao soi at numerous restaurants over there, and the one we got at Thai Aree house was definitely on par with what we had over there.
We also got some pad se ew and that was in the top 3 of pad se ew we’ve had. The Noodles were exceptional and they even had a little bit of char which was delicious.
No parking but there were plenty of spots In the nearby neighborhood when we went.
As a seasoned Thai foodie I would HIGHLY recommend.

Delicious food with large portions and some of the best service I’ve had in Chicago, which is remarkable since it was take-out. Def order from here, it’s worth working around the hours.
