The wait wasn’t long.
I got the general Tao’s chicken and my gf got the teriyaki chicken. We also shared an order of the fried dumplings.
The dumplings were made fresh and extra crispy with an above average filling. The sauce came in a bag which if you eat at food trucks you’ll understand. The dumplings alone are for sure 5 stars.
The general Tao chicken was also fresh and crispy but the sauce just tasted like a generic brown sauce, nothing to it. 4 star just because it was fresh and extra crispy even with sauce.
My gf didn’t like the teriyaki chicken at all. She hated the way the sauce tasted and the charring on the chicken. I on the other hand really liked the chicken because it was made to order and don’t mind the charring. However the sauce was not a teriyaki sauce or at least not one I’m used to. It just tasted like oyster sauce and not sweet or tangy. If you’ve never had oyster sauce by itself don’t. It’s good when you mix it with other Asian staples but alone it’s for sure not good by it’s self.
Another thing I liked was the salsa and cold rice noodle on the side. The salad made it a more balanced meal and both me and my girlfriend liked it. It wasn’t drenched with dressing and it was fresh lettuce.
The cold rice noodle I’ve never had before but it was something I’ll definitely try to make at home. It was neither salty nor sweet but in between.
I’m not a fan of the decor. Don’t get me wrong I like superhero’s like the next guy but it doesn’t fit the theme of the restaurant. They have a sporty, rustic, old fashioned, super hero theme.
Not sure if my gf would want to go back, unless it was for the dumplings!
My spicy chicken teriyaki was spot on with a precise grilled flavor on the chicken, the teriyaki was not as sweet as most teriyaki sauces (I don’t like very sweet teriyaki so was hesitant to try but glad I did!) and they said the spicy was 3 on scale to 5 and while I love a 5 star heat 3 as medium was perfectly on scale.
My wife from Vietnam got shrimp fried rice (not to chance teriyaki being sweet, but she would get teriyaki next time and said mine was very good), and she absolutely loved it! It’s hard to get her compliments on rice but she said it was very good. If you do order fried rice, go ahead and ask for a to-go box because it’s enough for 3 men to share! She hardly put a dent in it.
She also got 5 star heat which I tried and it was quiet spicy. Most interesting on their heat scale, 3 is a typical medium, 5 was spicy but not overbearing, however they have a 6 & 7 which I might try next time but most people would think is way too much, so their 1-5, +6-7 scale was a great visionary idea!
Overall we love this place!! Our only complaint is they don’t have one close to Southlake Texas!
