Beautiful day for a motorcycle ride into the country, and breakfast was the destination. The Texas Star Cafe for the bill perfectly.
.
I arrived not long after they opened and it was already hopping; about half the seats were full. Still, the waitress arrived soon after with coffee.
.
Their menu wasn’t long, but I knew from experience that the serving would be Texas-sized, so I had to take a minute to decide how hungry I was. I finally ordered the country fried steak with “hash browns”, sunny side eggs, and toast.
.
I put the hash browns in quotes because really they were dice-sized chunks of fried potatoes, not shredded. They were good, but not hash browns.
.
The food was uniformly delicious, the service was excellent, the vibe was country-rancher chillaxed… all of it perfect for my Saturday morning.
.
I’d stopped here several years earlier and had a burger. It was terrific and judging by the reviews, it still is. It’s nice to see some things don’t change.

I eat there regularly. Food is home style, not fancy but always delicious. Staff is attentive, always genuinely friendly. Facilities are always clean. Overall a wonderful country cafe with dependably welcoming service and very good home style food .

Always great breakfast! Out in country with good folks to talk to! Coffee is good and not so bold like other places, food is always delicious! Grits are thick and good, just the way they are supposed to be!
Plenty tables and chairs and large parking area!
Joann is always very nice when you walk in! She is so sweet and patient!
Definitely worth a visit! We need to try lunch some day. Im sure it will be good as well!

What a fun place to eat. Typical small town Texas place, Texas stuff all over, friendly people, and great food. I got the large chicken fried steak, which was two patties so I assume the “small” is one patty, and it was perfectly fried, excellent fried that dip well with the white gravy, large drinks. I loved it. My daughter got the bacon cheeseburger and it was huge. I thought it was a little strange that it didn’t come with fries but it was SO big that she did fine with some of my fries. She loved the burger, too. And the fries are also excellent, so definitely worth the a la cart to go with your burger. New Ulm is a little country town but they serve up a hella good meal.

Love this Cafe. My family has stayed in New Ulm the last two years and I’ve stopped by each time. Both have been great experiences. This place is absolutely a local hotspot, so expect a bit of traffic. The wait is absolutely worth it.

Well almost got a 5 star as The Hamburger is everything is made out to be! Good soft toasted bun, full 1/2 pound of cooked beef, nice compliment of onions-pickles-tomatoes etc!! But the fries were cold and undercooked! How does this happen??

A no frills country kitchen. Country atmosphere and attitude. You can’t be in a hurry, for the service is timely but not fast. Prices, portion sizes and food taste are moderate. No other eatery is around it. So, it’s nice if you are hungry and want just a clean place to eat.
