If you’re in Borger, Texas, looking for a place to eat that isn’t a sad drive-thru or a gas station burrito, Texas Rose is hands-down your best bet. This spot has that old-west-meets-modern-cabin aesthetic—polished wood everywhere, stuffed mounts glaring at you from every direction like you just wandered into a saloon showdown. It’s got character, it’s got charm, and it’s got plenty of seating. Just don’t expect to saddle up at the bar for a stiff drink—this place doesn’t serve liquor.

The Service

The waitstaff was on top of things—a little too on top, actually. Our server must’ve had some kind of internal timer because every time I took a bite, they’d pop up like a prairie dog asking how things were. Some people might like that level of attention, but I was just trying to enjoy my meal without feeling like I was being watched by the restaurant equivalent of the Secret Service.

The Food

Steak

Good, not great. A little on the thin side and could’ve used a bit more punch in the flavor department. Come on, we’re in cattle country—I expected a thick, juicy, butter-basted beast, not a steak that looked like it came off the “diet” section of the menu. That being said, my buddy got the same thing and swore it was amazing, so maybe I just caught mine on an off night. Would I order it again? Probably. But I’d be crossing my fingers for a little more oomph.

Prime Rib

Now, this was a solid choice. Not the best prime rib I’ve ever had, but definitely a respectable cut—tender, flavorful, and cooked right. If you’re debating between steak and prime rib, I’d lean towards the latter.

Seafood Sampler

Decent, but let’s be real—I’m from South Texas, right off the Gulf, where seafood is practically a religion. So my expectations were somewhere in the stratosphere, and Borger is not known for its fresh catch. That said, the catfish was solid—crispy and flavorful. The coconut shrimp? Pretty good. But the portions were on the light side. I’m used to seafood places loading me up with two or three fat fillets, not one thin one that looked like it needed backup.

The Rolls (AKA The Real MVP)

Forget everything else—these hot, fresh, buttery-soft rolls were the highlight. They just kept coming. If I could rate Texas Rose on rolls alone, we’d be talking Michelin-star levels. I’d go back just to carb-load on those bad boys.

The Vibe

They’ve got a nice bar area, different seating sections, and plenty of space for big groups—so whether you’re with family, friends, or a whole crew of hungry Texans, they got you covered. The ambiance nails that rustic but modern feel without looking like a Cracker Barrel knockoff. Just don’t expect to chase your steak with a whiskey—this place is booze-free.

Final Verdict

Texas Rose is the best place to eat in Borger—no contest. The atmosphere is on point, the service is eager (maybe a little too eager), and while the food could use some oomph in the steak and seafood department, it’s still a solid spot. But those rolls, man… those rolls alone are worth the trip.

Would I go back? Yep.
Would I order a thicker steak if they had one? Absolutely.
Would I eat an embarrassing amount of those hot rolls again? You better believe it.

We’ve only been in borger for a year but my regret is not coming to this this restaurant sooner! Its fantastic, everyone is so nice and the food was so good! The rolls they have are so light an fluffy! My husband got a medium rare steak and it was fantastic! I got the coconut shrimp, it had an interesting dipping sauce but it was really good . They gave us free cinnamon rolls and they were amazing, best cinnamon rolls we’ve ever had! Wish we can here waaay sooner, we’re definitely going to keep coming back

Got 2 chicken fried steak dinners.
Chicken fried steak was half assed, soggy and cold. Okra was soggy and cold and not fully fried. The loaded baked potato was just a potato. No works at all not even butter. Mashed potatoes were delicious and the rolls were good so was the salad and the one sprite we got but overall for 2 meals to cost $48+ and $8 gratuity charge making 2 dinners almost $60. I’d think we’d at least walk away with fresh, hot, cooked food and all the fixings we ordered. It was dead there wasn’t reason for that to go out like that. When’s the last time the Dyer’s checked in on what is being put out? And then the hostess just dismissed us “Oh I’m sorry I can tell a manager anything else i can help you with” I asked ” idk can you tell me what yak can do about it” and was met with silence…. at least we enjoyed our braums Sundays. With the cost of living can’t afford to blow another $50+ to give it anther chance.

Went back today for take out. Food was hot and great as expected. Service was 8 to 10 minutes after placing the order. Keep up the great job!
Not changing my review however service today was not anything like previous visits. Not sure why, there didn’t seem to be a shortage of wait staff so, no good reason.
I ate green chili chicken fried steak and it was great.
It’s been a few months but Texas Rose is igual or better than ever. Tonight was a bacon cheeseburger. Yum, it was great.
