1 Star – Deeply Disappointing Experience at a Brand-New Location

We chose the newly opened Texas Roadhouse in Battle Creek to celebrate my husband’s 80th birthday — a milestone we were genuinely looking forward to.

We informed staff upon arrival and again when ordering. Aside from a brief verbal congratulations, there was no acknowledgment of the occasion.

We arrived at opening time and were the first guests in the restaurant. Despite informing staff of the celebration and the dining room being nearly empty, we were seated in the very back of the restaurant near the restroom area. While seating may not matter to everyone, given the milestone occasion and availability of tables, it contributed to the overall feeling of limited attentiveness.

The primary concern, however, was the food quality and presentation.

I ordered the Smothered Chicken. It arrived without the jack cheese topping clearly listed on the menu. When I pointed this out, I was offered cheese on the side rather than a properly corrected dish.

The Portobello mushrooms were cut into very large chunks rather than evenly sliced, which negatively affected both texture and balance of the dish.

Both plates looked carelessly assembled and visually unappetizing, as though final presentation had not been reviewed before leaving the kitchen.

My husband’s Country Fried Chicken with white gravy appeared hastily finished, with a significant portion of the gravy poured unevenly and excessively. Nearly half of it ran down the side of the chicken and collected along the rim of the plate. The overall appearance was messy and unappetizing.

The steak fries were heavily saturated in oil.

One piece of my chicken was acceptable. The larger piece had an off flavor and was inedible beyond one bite. More than half of my main course was returned. I clearly explained there was something wrong with the chicken.

A manager circulated through our section checking surrounding tables but did not approach ours despite a returned dish and visible dissatisfaction.

Additionally, while the steak knives were solid, the forks were noticeably poor quality. The back edges of the handles were sharply finished and uncomfortable to hold. Every fork at our table had the same issue.

Drink glasses were handled by staff at the rim where guests place their mouths. Proper glass handling is a basic hygiene practice, and this contributed further to our discomfort.

Despite these concerns, we were charged full price (aside from the standard military discount).

For a newly opened location, this reflects concerning lapses in kitchen execution, plating standards, equipment quality, hygiene awareness, and managerial oversight.

We truly wanted this to be a special evening. Instead, it was deeply disappointing.

Went to check this place out for dinner with friends on a Monday evening. Quite busy and loud. We gave the hostess our phone number and went to the bar for a drink. The hostess texted about 5 minutes later indicating we should gather our party and quickly proceed to the host stand. I went up and they asked where we were waiting and that they would come get us when our table had been cleared. A few minutes later we were seated. Our server, Sheryl, was very attentive and patient. The food took a bit of time to come out but we enjoyed visiting and watching the staff do there thing. I had the catfish, which was pretty good, and my buddy said his steak was excellent. My wife had wanted prime rib but they were out of the rare and medium rare cuts so she settled for the portobello mushroom chicken, which she said was good but not memorable. Her friend had a big salad with chicken, which she did enjoy. When the bills came, Sheryl asked if we had played games on the hand held computer (see photo) on the table as there was a charge on one bill for it. We said no, we had just looked at the device and clicked on a couple things but had no idea there was a cost to use it, so she removed the charge. Perhaps we didn’t look at it very carefully but be aware that there may be a fee for using it.

I am so thankful for Battle Creeks Texas Roadhouse location and anxiously awaited it’s opening. Wonderful service, great atmosphere and food. Server was on point and the entertainment didn’t disappoint. This was my 8 yr old grandsons 1st time and he smiled with joy when they did their bday songs and their country dances and even did the “yee-haw”. He’s ready to go back.

Walked in, greeted almost instantly by the host. Seated fairly quickly. The service manager Heather approached us, introduced herself and the service from Mae was top tier . Will be coming back.

We went to this establishment a couple of weeks ago for the first time and from beginning to end it was awesome! Our server (forgot her name, sorry) was awesome! They were quite busy but she never missed a beat! She kept my coffee filled and my husband’s coke. I ordered the country fried chicken with brown gravy with mushrooms and onions. First time I have had this dish and the chicken covered the platter!! It was so delicious but I had to take half it to go. My husband ordered the hamburger which was also delicious! The atmosphere was great and the entertainment also!
A week later we went to a different Texas Roadhouse and I ordered the country fried chicken again, exactly the same as before and it was quite a disappointment. We decided we will stay with the Battle Creek Texas Roadhouse where everything tastes fresh and the staff is awesome!

We stopped in here today for lunch. My husband ordered a bone-in ribeye fries and salad and I had a regular Caesar salad.
The Ribeye was cooked to perfection ….Thank you Zach (the chef…we asked for his name) you are a wonderful cook and I just want you to be recognized!! And our server was Jessica…great server ! We appreciate you both. We had a great lunch and good service! When we come back we hope you both are there!

All the other food was great as well!

I have been to so many Texas Roadhouse’s in several different states. This one, hands down is the worst one that I have ever been to and they are brand new. 1st off, the rolls were cold and hard. Then our waitress Carrie, forgot our appetizer and kept disappearing. Then our food came and it was freezing cold! The manager Kimberly came out to say she was so sorry and would warm up our steaks. Thats it. No, sorry or can I get you a fresh one. Even the sides were cold. I asked if she could take some money off to make it right and the waitress came back with what we thought would at least be a discount on our meal. Nope! $70.00 still for 2 cold ribeyes, sides and stale cold bread. We didn’t even have drinks. 1 water and 1 watered down ice tea. I do not recommend this place at all. The only thing that was good was watching the young lady and gentlemen who danced. I won’t be going back there again.

After waiting well over 2 hours for a table, we waited another half hour for drinks. Meanwhile, easily 30, probably 40 wait staff walked by our table looking lost w nothing on their hands. We were hungry and thirsty. It was kinda like a nightmare. Our waitress seemed to disappear completely. At one point we saw her with what looked like our drinks on her tray, but she disappeared again for another 15 mins. Where was the management? After finally getting drinks that arrived long after our salad, rolls,, chili, and peanuts and several obnoxious birthday yeehaws, we waited easily another half hour for our food, with another stream of 40 waitresses with nothing in their hands and dirty dishes on our table. When the food did arrive, my husbands fries were cold. Total fail for this restaurant.

My family and I were dining in this resturant in 10/21/25. We thought Tuesday night and it’s been a little bit it should be a little less busy. Not so. VERY busy but we were seated within the 10-20 min estimate we were given.

The food was great! Loved by all of us but the STAFF! Chef’s kiss! The hostess team was amazing and kept things moving as quickly as they could with smiles on their faces. We had Mindy as our server and she was AMAZING! We bonded over having kids the same age, and she did an awesome job checking in on us and taking care of our needs before we had to ask. Especially getting extra rolls for my 1.5 year old who seemed to find a new love in devoting them! She is the best server we have had in a long time!

We will definitely be coming back!

My son chose Texas LongHorn Steakhouse for his birthday dinner, which made this experience especially disappointing.
We placed a $63 mobile order at 6:14 PM and received an email confirmation stating it would be ready at 6:45 PM. We arrived at the drive-through at 6:51 PM and were told the restaurant was behind and that we would receive a text when the order was ready.

At 7:15 PM, I called and was told they were still behind and would text us. I called again at 7:30 PM and was given the same response. After waiting nearly two hours, we went inside the restaurant at 7:50 PM.

An employee told us that a text had been sent at 7:25 PM stating the order was ready. However, no text was received. I asked which phone number the text was sent to, as the app only required an email address and no phone number was listed. I also checked the receipt, and no phone number was printed.

When this was explained to the General Manager, Teresa, she accused us of lying and stated it was not their fault that we “missed” the text. To make matters worse, the order was missing items.

Had we known it would take nearly two hours to receive our food, we would have chosen another restaurant. Unfortunately, the lack of accountability, missing items, and the way we were treated made this experience unacceptable. We received no apology and were accused of dishonesty.

I hope customer service will reach out to address this situation. This experience has left us with little confidence in returning. Do better, Texas LongHorn Steakhouse.
