Reviews
We chose the newly opened Texas Roadhouse in Battle Creek to celebrate my husband’s 80th birthday — a milestone we were genuinely looking forward to.
We informed staff upon arrival and again when ordering. Aside from a brief verbal congratulations, there was no acknowledgment of the occasion.
We arrived at opening time and were the first guests in the restaurant. Despite informing staff of the celebration and the dining room being nearly empty, we were seated in the very back of the restaurant near the restroom area. While seating may not matter to everyone, given the milestone occasion and availability of tables, it contributed to the overall feeling of limited attentiveness.
The primary concern, however, was the food quality and presentation.
I ordered the Smothered Chicken. It arrived without the jack cheese topping clearly listed on the menu. When I pointed this out, I was offered cheese on the side rather than a properly corrected dish.
The Portobello mushrooms were cut into very large chunks rather than evenly sliced, which negatively affected both texture and balance of the dish.
Both plates looked carelessly assembled and visually unappetizing, as though final presentation had not been reviewed before leaving the kitchen.
My husband’s Country Fried Chicken with white gravy appeared hastily finished, with a significant portion of the gravy poured unevenly and excessively. Nearly half of it ran down the side of the chicken and collected along the rim of the plate. The overall appearance was messy and unappetizing.
The steak fries were heavily saturated in oil.
One piece of my chicken was acceptable. The larger piece had an off flavor and was inedible beyond one bite. More than half of my main course was returned. I clearly explained there was something wrong with the chicken.
A manager circulated through our section checking surrounding tables but did not approach ours despite a returned dish and visible dissatisfaction.
Additionally, while the steak knives were solid, the forks were noticeably poor quality. The back edges of the handles were sharply finished and uncomfortable to hold. Every fork at our table had the same issue.
Drink glasses were handled by staff at the rim where guests place their mouths. Proper glass handling is a basic hygiene practice, and this contributed further to our discomfort.
Despite these concerns, we were charged full price (aside from the standard military discount).
For a newly opened location, this reflects concerning lapses in kitchen execution, plating standards, equipment quality, hygiene awareness, and managerial oversight.
We truly wanted this to be a special evening. Instead, it was deeply disappointing.
A week later we went to a different Texas Roadhouse and I ordered the country fried chicken again, exactly the same as before and it was quite a disappointment. We decided we will stay with the Battle Creek Texas Roadhouse where everything tastes fresh and the staff is awesome!
The Ribeye was cooked to perfection ….Thank you Zach (the chef…we asked for his name) you are a wonderful cook and I just want you to be recognized!! And our server was Jessica…great server ! We appreciate you both. We had a great lunch and good service! When we come back we hope you both are there!
All the other food was great as well!
The food was great! Loved by all of us but the STAFF! Chef’s kiss! The hostess team was amazing and kept things moving as quickly as they could with smiles on their faces. We had Mindy as our server and she was AMAZING! We bonded over having kids the same age, and she did an awesome job checking in on us and taking care of our needs before we had to ask. Especially getting extra rolls for my 1.5 year old who seemed to find a new love in devoting them! She is the best server we have had in a long time!
We will definitely be coming back!
We placed a $63 mobile order at 6:14 PM and received an email confirmation stating it would be ready at 6:45 PM. We arrived at the drive-through at 6:51 PM and were told the restaurant was behind and that we would receive a text when the order was ready.
At 7:15 PM, I called and was told they were still behind and would text us. I called again at 7:30 PM and was given the same response. After waiting nearly two hours, we went inside the restaurant at 7:50 PM.
An employee told us that a text had been sent at 7:25 PM stating the order was ready. However, no text was received. I asked which phone number the text was sent to, as the app only required an email address and no phone number was listed. I also checked the receipt, and no phone number was printed.
When this was explained to the General Manager, Teresa, she accused us of lying and stated it was not their fault that we “missed” the text. To make matters worse, the order was missing items.
Had we known it would take nearly two hours to receive our food, we would have chosen another restaurant. Unfortunately, the lack of accountability, missing items, and the way we were treated made this experience unacceptable. We received no apology and were accused of dishonesty.
I hope customer service will reach out to address this situation. This experience has left us with little confidence in returning. Do better, Texas LongHorn Steakhouse.
