We were seated after about an hour wait. Our Servers name was Taylor. A nice young lady new to serving seemed a little frazzled and super honest. She made us chuckle which was nice seeing as the rest of the meal was horrible.
We eat well done steaks. I ordered a NY strip well done it was still mooing when it arrived even after applying a flash light to it. (due to the red lights your steaks will always look red even when they are NOT) so you folks who believe ur medium well steak is perfect add an regular light feom ur phones flashlight and check to see if its really how you like it.
Taylor takes our steak back to the kitchen. The manager Shannon is supposed to bring it back out to me. Said manager is out checking tables and asks, “How was your dinner? Everything taste good?” I responded “Idk. I havent gotten it back yet.” She saulys “o, I hear it calling now! and then left and reappeared w a very oily looking steak that was still pink. She offered to take it back and finally insaid ok. When she returned it looked great. While she stood there talking I cut a piece took a bite and about puked. The whole underside of my steak was chared. I mean like if you catch your grill on fire w dinner on it and chose to eat the ash brick that would be left. I flipped the steak over to find the whole underside chared to hell and back. She said the put a weight on it to get it to cook faster. It literally needed 2 minutes that was all. She says “hold on. let me do something. ill be back.” She didnt come back.
We asked our server for her and she stated she was on the phone and would be out in a moment, but she had credited our bill by 20 dollars. So when Shannon got to our table she had completely forgot she had intended to come back. I asked for the other manager on duty. The problem at this point was simple. A credit was all well in good but I was leaving from their restaurant hungry because nothing else was offered in its place. The other manager came and I explained what happened. She already knew I was unhappy. When I expressed I wasn’t offered anything else she seemed suprised. so I get BBQ chicken. let me tell you strike 3. 1st the steak. then the manager now the chicken. I think the chicken had been seasoned by the smoke from my flame charred steak. this is our last visit yo New Albany Texas Roadhouse.
Serviec has 3 stars simply because our server was very nice.
Finally after ordering, the first set of salads were both wrong, both so wrong!! The young female food runner understood and was getting corrected. My wife mentioned the issue to a young female manager, I told her we were going to two salads now but I was wrong, we ended up with THREE salads! I offered one to a neighbor at the bar because the young manager and runner looked like deers in the headlights. With all that, our steaks arrived at the same time of the salads and the smothered mushrooms and onions on my order ended up on my wife’s Dallas fillet. The young female looked down on both and said my wife’s steak looked like a sirloin . Apparently didn’t know her steak difference!!
Well, I finished my steak by the time my wife was starting hers (because she finished her salad first) only to discover her medium Dallas fillet order was medium rare… with a lot of rare. We asked for a re-fire and they asked same steak? We said sure since only cut open but not eaten. By the time her steak came back out I was done with my meal… and… her steak was still medium rare. With the third attempt we asked for a new steak. So there we are… salads finished, sides finished, my entree finished, waiting on the third attempt for a good Dallas fillet and both servers in the bar are ignoring us like we’re now taking up space. When the third fillet attempt arrived, it came out medium well, no pink, just overcooked. She took a couple of bites to feel polite and asked for a box. It now sets in my refrigerator waiting to be a breakfast hash!
Oh theme night… we asked our bar server about the Hawaiian Lei’s the other waiter/waitress were wearing and her answer was more about not be told and the disconnection between management and bartenders or something… . We left never knowing what the theme night was about.
Back to our favorite Newark location…
The steaks— one star— unfortunately wouldn’t order again. Three out of three steaks overcooked (sat too long maybe?) The famous rolls weren’t quite up to par either and had not risen correctly. But the potatoes were awesome. Sides were pretty good. And again, the service was amazing so we are sticking with four stars.
