Haven’t explored La Mesa eateries over the last 8 years, wow there is another whole side of Big Backness awaiting me. Especially Testo Pepesto Italian restaurant. I stumbled across the tram at a private food tasting even on Mt. Helix. The host was energetic and confident I’d enjoy anything off the menu. So next day I made it my mission to try it. The only reason for a 4 is parking and the passerby’s who were rather disturbing on the patio seating facing the street. So I elected to eat inside, other than that, portion size good for a big back, flavor -wow, service attentiveness -check, and the pricing very good. If you don’t frequent the La Mesa area, and you don’t have lunch or dinner plans…visit this place and you won’t be disappointed.

Is The best Italian restaurant in the area. The spaghetti with meat ball is amazing taste. The sandwich is outstanding and the portion is big. Chicken wings are nice, abit salty to me. The restaurant is nice and outdoor area is beautiful. Highly recommended.

I used to eat here. Frequently. The food quality has gone. Very down hill. Rough cooking from previous gentle well prepared.

The eggplant is fried in a rough bread and is ruined by the bread.
Three Months ago I had an Uber delivery. It went to the wrong house . When it was located, the Alfredo Sauce was broken down and terrible. The owner is no longer here. The food quality has gone from 4 star to zero stars. Delivery is terrible. I could not eat the breaded Eggplant.

Went in on a Friday afternoon, the place was super busy. We were seated after a few minutes. The gentleman that sat and served us was great. The food was delicious. This is our usual pizza place. This day was extremely busy but the gentleman managed well, thank you for that. We had three cheese pizza, a couple of salads and heavenly lobster Mac and cheese. I love the food and service. Thank you Testo!!!

Testo Pepesto is my FAVORITE Italian place. I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a great place for date night and it’s decorated so cute!
Also they have a huge gluten free menu and I’ve never been disappointed.

Absolutely loved our experience here! The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service was top-notch from the moment we walked in. But the real star of the night was the pizza—crispy, perfectly charred crust with rich, flavorful sauce and high-quality, fresh toppings. Every bite felt like a little trip to Naples. Easily one of the best pizzas we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend!

We revisited to support the small business after the recent health department closure and, after eating, we felt underwhelmed. I dont think we will return and I leave you this review in an attempt to advice you of your short comings so you can fix it and flourish.
1.) I ordered takeout. When entering to pick up my $80 order the two women seemed irritated by my presence. Frowns, dismissivness, and just plain rude.
2.) The chicken parm sammich tasted as if it was cooked in days old oil and tge chicken was dry. There was minimal sauce on the sandwich leading to extra dry. I didnt eat it.
3.) The mac n cheese has a unique and pungent taste to it which was unexpected. For $22 it was extremely overpriced. I didnt like the cheese blend, mot authentic, and didnt eat it.
4.) The pizza crust was not crispy at all. The toppings, as sparingly as they were used, tasted ok so we decided to eat the toppings and not the crust.
In all, I hated spending $80 for something we didn’t eat with bad service. I didn’t want to call because I feared the rude women would not help.

This place is amazing! We came here at a late afternoon for lunch. We chose to have a thin crust pizza! The one both of us wanna try is the blue cheese one, it’s their special pizza. It’s called Barb’s Special Pizza. It’s super delicious! The toppings are so heavy and full of cheese! The crust is thin but held the toppings nicely. I never had a blue cheese before but I have to say, this pizza opened my gate to blue cheese pizza! The service is friendly and atmosphere is classic. Very nice restaurant!
