This might be the best southern food I had in Austin, Had to wait a little but it was so worth the wait. If you like chicken with fish, this is the spot

I’m from south Louisiana, and this transported me home! We had fried catfish with fries and corn nuggets and fried cod with fried okra and hush puppies. It’s a no frills, down to earth place, which in my opinion is the best sort of place. The food was so so good!

Nothing special AT ALL. Average food but at good prices. The hush puppies should be called hush puppy sticks they taste absolutely gross though. Fries were nice and crispy. Shrimp was super average. The service was great.

Terry’s Seafood and Chicken is my must-stop whenever I’m in Austin! I’ve been coming here since my college days, and it never disappoints. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. I especially love coming on Fridays—there’s just something about their fish that makes it the perfect end-of-the-week meal. The service is friendly, the portions are generous, and the quality is top-notch. If you’re in Austin, I highly recommend stopping by. You won’t regret it!

This place was better years ago, not anymore. Very slow service, it took over 40 minutes to get fried chicken. We were the only customers, so no reason for this delay. It shouldn’t take that long for their signature meal. Prices are too high for what is offered. $17 for 6 piece chicken tenders, doesn’t even come with a drink.
You could dine at nicer restaurants on that price, and get quicker service. I won’t be a returning customer.

This was my second visit. The first time was in 2021 and the food was so good I have always wanted to come back. This time the food was edible. I paid 22 w/tip for a seafood platter . The cod was probably frozen pre breaded fish and it very dark skinned… The shrimp were really good and the oysters were edible. The hush puppies SAVED THE DAY! HOWEVER someone needs to QUICKLY address the coleslaw which had NO FLAVOR AND WAS DRY… I talked to the owner who happened to be from Settegast, a neighborhood in Houston, while I was there, hopefully he will see this review. Just offer the catfish, let the frozen cod go or find a way to make it fresh… Also not having the fried okra and telling me the coleslaw was good is diabolical… If it wasn’t for the 3 shrimp, which were large and perfectly seasoned and the 6-8 hush puppies I would have returned this food… PS. I hope this review is seen and taken into consideration, AI am sure you could have WAY MORE BUSINESS if you improved the quality of your seafood!

My Dad owned this building and managed it when it was a Weiner King fast food restaurant back in the 70s. I grew up there as a kid after school until close and all throughout the summers long. I think the owner has had it and started Terry’s Seafood and Chicken ever since my Dad closed his own place down here. I went back at age 46. But I went back at age 46 and was standing there in the order area in the front lobby just peering around trying to see in the back as much as I could, and the owner behind the counter off to the side asked if I needed help, as if I was pondering and still deciding on an order. I was just looking around and through the back trying to see what all I remembered from where I was standing. I was just going to leave after a few seconds of gazing. But when he asked me if I needed any help, I told him from behind the customers in the back, “I just came in for a second. I’m just looking around. My Dad had this place years ago. I used to hang out back there in the back.” All of the customers turned around. He said, “Do you want to take a look? Come on back here!” He waved me back and came around and met me and walked me back and gave me a tour, walking me through the kitchen and the back and all through it. Showed me around. He introduced me to all of his workers, still cooking and frying and prepping, and he gave them a quick introduction of me growing up in there as a kid. He let me stay there as long as I wanted. Everyone was smiling and grinning, just very happy and welcoming, nodding, saying hello, smiling away, and everyone was having a good time, allowing me to walk by and through and around, and look around. It was nostalgic and one of the best moments ever. And I will always remember it. Always. Very cool moment. What a great guy. What some great people.

Very very disappointed! They gave me old fried cod fish like from the day before. The shrimp was almost bad but they still fried it and served it. You can smell the old shimp smell through the batter! Old cold fries. How is this a seafood place but everything is literally old, cold and taste like this? I was very angry I should’ve taken all the food back and got my money back seriously it wasn’t cheap but it was late and I just didn’t feel like driving back. Would NOT recommend at all. I usually don’t do reviews but I’m just tired of these places like this ripping people off. Oh yeah also got some fried wings that were so salty couldn’t even eat them. I could go all day that’s how bad this was. Go at your own risk!

The people working the restaurant said food will de ready in 20 min, it took over 40 minutes for a 6 pice chicken wings. someone else orders food and they got food in 10 minutes and we were still waiting for the food. The food was pricy for what you got. The restrooms had no soap and no paper towels. Over all I would not go back.

Chicken tenders were tough and overcooked. I ate one and threw the rest away. Catfish was average. The best thing was the fresh fried okra.
Not worth a special trip, but OK if you happen to be passing by.
