Terras Urban Mexican Kitchen established in 2016 under three driving forces: local, unique, and community. In 2014, co-founders Christian Nevarez (Head Chef) and Juan Flores (Bar Manager) met working at a local restaurant. They shared a vision of creating a unique culinary and craft cocktail experience in Brownsville, Texas. They set up shop on Elizabeth St. in Historic Downtown Brownsville. Within a year of opening, Juan, Christian, and their staff brought a unique dining experience to Downtown Brownsville with creations like the Shrimp Molcajete, Pineapple Moscow Mule, Ribeye Mole, and Sangre de Azteca.

Great food and a great place for a night out! My only 2 complaints are that the portions are pretty small for what your paying for and that there seemed to be a breakdown of communication between the kitchen staff and our waitress because she needed to come back to our table 4 separate times to let us know that they were completely out of some of their menu dishes. If this had happened only once, and if she had said “Hey the kitchen is out of 4 items” the first time, I would not have been so harsh, but after the third time that she needed to came back, it was getting comical. Food was on point however and we really enjoyed it. Also do yourself a favor and order their drink “Encanto” it was a big hit at our table.

Well….4 the plates I ordered they didn’t have-they ran out. Would have been great for the server to start with that. So it took a while for us to order. Food overall was very well made but small plates 3 tacos for about $20. My tortillas we burn in places and all I could taste was the burnt parts-bien chamuscada la tortilla. The rest of the tortilla was delicious. Then we ordered desserts and again they had run out but didn’t tell us……I would come again and hope they have the enchiladas potosinas-que me quedé con las pinches ganas…as we were leaving the bar tender asked us if we had tried the special. We didn’t because the server didn’t tell us about it either…..

This place was amazing as always. The atmosphere is cozy able to enjoy great conversations over even better food…. And don’t get me started in the drinks. I ordered the strawberry field cocktail, presentation was spot on and the taste was good as well. Even better was the fact that the water didn’t have that “pennies” taste. (If you know you know). The food was at the same level. We ordered the Lamb Flautas that was so good. It was toasted but not overdone, the sauce was so creamy, the pickled jalapeños came in with a zing and topped with sliced cherry tomatoes and garnishes were chef’s kiss! My moms Panchos were just as yummy I had to steal a bite. Perfect balance of meat, cheese, and green salsa without having the chips soggy. Only thing bad thing was I was so full I didn’t get to try their desserts. The servers were all very attentive. They were working hard going around for refills at all tables, they gave my my. Heck discreetly when I asked for it and still let us stay and make conversation with the next table. One of my favorite places for sure. No ticket shock for me as I feel it was all worth it!

Food is delicious but the inconsistency of plates the food is served on and the lack of experienced waiters really brings the ratings down for me. We asked the waiter for lemons and never got them. We asked for honey and never got it. Pancakes arrived with melted ice cream dripping off the plate and onto the table. Again food is delicious but look at the images both same item ordered one is in a bowl and the other on a plate. They need to get their serving and presentation consistent and attentive waiters and this will easily be a 5 star place.

I’m amazed this place is not at least a 4.7 as everything was so good. We had the Chilean Sea Bass, lamb flautas, carrots and cocktails. That carrot dish is super tasty and almost a meal on its own, definitely shareable. The sauces on all of our dishes were very tasty.

Unfortunately we had just arrived when it opened and the dessert I went for wasn’t available. Also, the two drinks tasted exactly the same. No distinction whatsoever. The food was okay and they don’t offer free chips and salsa before ordering like the majority of great restaurants. Be prepared to wait about an hour for food and the music is too loud. Our waitress was friendly and did check up on us. I don’t know what the hype is for this place.

The food was really good but they don’t have any parking and at first the service was awful until my brother in law complained… Really uncomfortable seating… Because of that I couldn’t give them 5 stars… But the food was delicious
