I’ve been here several times, and it never disappoints. The pork belly ramen is outstanding — rich, perfectly cooked pork and a broth that’s honestly the best I’ve ever had. Deep, flavorful, and comforting in a way that keeps you coming back. Totally worth it, especially during the dreary winter months in Philly when you need something warm, satisfying, and done right. We went this afternoon for take-out and even during off peak hours the place was busy! It seemed like a never ending stream of customers coming in and out. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and directed to take-out screen. It was easy to use and pay through. The place smelled of fresh spices. It’s small, but beautifully decorated and worth the wait. We maybe waited 10 minutes for our food. It was delicious! We actually drove over from South Jersey and found street parking without any problems, but I doubt that’s the norm.

Thank you fellow reviewers in helping us find a good ramen shop in Philly!

ATMOSPHERE:
Contemporary Asian decor. Clean and newer looking shop. Counter & table seating.

FOOD:
Gyoza
5 pieces of pork & veggie dumplings fried to perfection, with a delicious dipping sauce.

Mini Tokyo Fried Chicken Curry
Small bowl of rice topped with the crispy chicken & curry gravy. Delish! I wasn’t a curry fan but my taste buds are a-changin’!

Mayu Ramen
When I ordered this, both the chef & server acted surprised and asked me if I’ve ever had ramen before, and told me what the broth was made of and that its the same broth that’s in the Terakawa signature ramen but a step above it. Come on now, what Asian do you know who hasn’t eaten ramen? I know they meant well. I just said yes and that I was sure that’s what I wanted. Ok, the broth is made from a pork bone base so the color is a milky brown but they also add in mayu which they tout as a dark roasted leek & crushed garlic oil mixture, which adds a layer of black oil seasoning that floats at the top. The broth is mild in flavor and is very rich and filling. Some reviewers mistake it as bland but I don’t think it’s meant to be an overpowering flavor. The toppings of char siu, red ginger, mushrooms, scallions, and egg all compliment the broth nicely. I’ve never had anything like this so I’m glad I tried it. It’s definitely not for the average ramen eater – you’ve got to be a fan.

Tan Tan Ramen
My spouse added a hard boiled egg to his dish. I tasted the broth only. It’s a bit sweet for a tan tan base and not spicy. Our favorite version resides at at Goma Tei in Honolulu which is spicier and more savory.

SERVICE:
Walked in at 3pm on a Monday afternoon and got seated immediately as the place was empty. Our female server was very friendly but disappeared after our order was taken. Someone else brought over our food. She didn’t check on us or refill our waters. The chef was very engaging and cared about what his customers were eating as he consulted with us while ordering.

OVERALL:
Nice & clean ramen shop in Philly’s Chinatown with great food and average prices. Definitely a come back spot!

My first time trying this style of ramen and edamame and it was really good, I really liked the flavor of the broth and the egg. We waited 10-15 minutes to be seated. It is small inside so the tables are pretty close together. I would go back.

Food is 12/10! Flavors very authentic to the counterparts I’ve had in Japan. When I arrived I was torn between ordering the ramen I came for and trying the curry that looked and smelled so good. Fortunately, they have an option on the menu that gets you best of both worlds: ramen with a mini bowl of chicken curry.

So that’s what I got, an onigiri, mini Curry bowl, and terakawa ramen (extra spicy with egg on the side). I ate every last drop and grain! Delicious!

Becareful with the spicy ramen. The broth is made with peanuts and this isn’t obvious from the menu description.

One of the best and authentic ramen place in Philly. The service was fast, efficient and friendly. The portions are generous and the taste is perfect (some ramen are salty and too much fats).

We arrived on Sunday around 7 pm. And we had to stand in line for about 15 minutes, but there were 4 of us. Those who came as a couple or one person could sit at the table faster. If you have not made an appointment in advance, you need to go and register on your tablet at log in. The service was very polite and fast. The food is fresh and tasty. We were in Philadelphia for the weekend and AI recommended this place to be tasty and inexpensive. That’s how it happened.

Katsu curry is a Japanese dish consisting of fried pork cutlets, Japanese rice and curry. It is served in a large plate and is usually eaten with a spoon or fork. The fried pork cutlets are usually pre-cut into strips and do not require a knife. They are placed in a long oval white porcelain plate, looking elegant and novel. I wanted to order a small serving of miso soup for lunch, but they don’t offer it here.

Yeah. Went to this place on a Saturday night and was greeted with a line nearly out the door. Started to put my info in at the ipad up front when a server saw me and asked “are you just one?” When I told her yes, she told me to follow her and sat me at a seat along the kitchen. Scanned the QR code for the menu and was nearly instantly asked what I wanted, then very politely told no problem we’ll be back when I said I needed a bit more time.

Went with the onigiri, the terakawa signature, a side order of curry, and a calpico (unfortunately no alcohol).

This shit was delicious. Asked for the ramen to be a little saltier. Didn’t add anything to it. The egg was perfect, the pork was way softer and tastier than it had any business being, and the curry on the side was a really homey feel to it, like the curry blocks I’d make at home.

10/10 on all fronts (minus no alcohol but I get it), will definitely be back.

Terakawa Ramen is our rainy day refuge. The kind of place that pulls you in with its warm glow and makes the whole world feel a little softer. If the sky is gray and the sidewalks are wet, this is exactly where we want to be.

We have been here easily a hundred times and the Pork Tan Tan has never not been part of our order. It is that comforting. Warm. Spicy. Rich in all the ways that make you close your eyes for a second just to appreciate the moment. The broth stays bold, the noodles stay perfect, and it hits with the same magic every single time.

And their takoyaki? No competition. They make the best around. Crisp shell, molten center, that smoky, savory goodness that keeps you reaching for one more even when you know you should slow down.

Terakawa is a place that turns a rainy day into a quiet celebration. We will always come back.
