WE HAD TO RETURN THE FOOD! The beef nagimaki & beef teriyaki were so hard & bland. Both tasted not fresh, seems like they thawed the meat & refroze it a couple times. We then said maybe beef is not their specialty & gave their sushi a try & unfortunately those were not fresh either. My friend got sick from the raw sushi, I tried their fried oysters and these did not taste fresh either. They need to narrow down their menu & have fresh tasty food instead, that can’t get anyone sick! What a waste! We still paid but we shall never come back again. I’ve never had such a bad food experience in manhattan.

This was the worst sushi experience of my life. My wife and I ordered the 3-roll combo for $17, and everything tasted off — the rolls were flavorless, the ingredients didn’t feel fresh, and the salad was disgusting and clearly not fresh. A few hours later, I had serious stomach issues and had to rush to find a bathroom. I’ve never had this happen to me before — my stomach usually handles everything fine. I couldn’t even finish my food, and neither could my wife. Absolutely unacceptable. 1 star.

We actually slid into this place bc our kid needed a restroom immediately and there was nowhere else to go. BUT, it turned out to be my favorite restaurant on our whole trip! Kind, attentive staff, pleasant atmosphere, and the food was AMAZING!! We all got the “lunch box” meal that came with little sushi rolls, soup, salad, rice, spring rolls, dumplings, as well as choice of teriyaki chicken, steak or salmon… (that salmon was literally the Best I’ve ever tasted in life!). and all at a good price! Loved it so much! They need to bring it to Sedalia, Missouri!!

Tenzan, on the Upper West Side, has been a Japanese cuisine staple for nearly 20 years. The sushi, for the most part, has always been solid, and the service is both respectful and great. We have dined here dozens of times over the years. This establishment is definitely one of the better mid-tier Japanese restaurants in the area.

The sushi and sashimi lunches are consistent. They are solid sushi. Tastes fresh enough. For about $16 each, they are good. Sushi lunch has 6 pieces of nigiri and California roll which I usually switch to shrimp avocado for +$2, and the sashimi lunch usually has 10 or 11 slices and comes with rice. The rice is plain, not sushi rice. The miso soup it comes with is salty and good. Very fast delivery.

What can I say , absolutely delicious food , fabulous menu to choose from ! My friend & I choose the combo for two of Sushi & Sashimi . It entailed a variety of fish , Tuna , Salmon , Eel , Shrimp and Yellow tail , also another fish , I can’t recall name ! The portions were great , staff friendly , fast service although place was packed . We had to wait about five or ten minutes for the table , but definitely well worth the wait .
