Personally, this restaurant is a bit overrated. The food was a little weird. I ordered a bento box that came with a salad and soup. The soup was ok but the tofu inside was too chewy. Also, the salad had wayyyy too much dressing in it and it tasted unbalanced and sweet. The actual bento box had steak and this weird gooey sauce that was like snot. I wasn’t a big fan of that. The gyonzas weren’t fried the best and melted away in the soy sauce. The fried rice was ok but it didn’t have any vegetables in it. And it came with these fried sweet potatoes that weren’t my favorite. Although the tempura was great. We also ordered a spider roll that was just fine. And I feel that it was a bit overpriced than said on the website. The atmosphere was ok I guess, the floors were clean but they were playing old music. The staff were pretty friendly and gave us a very great goodbye.

I discovered Tenji Sushi while staying near my hotel, and it quickly became one of the highlights of my trip. The food here is truly outstanding fresh, authentic, and beautifully prepared. Every dish I tried was full of flavor and tasted just as good as the sushi I’ve had in Japan. The service is equally impressive: the staff are warm, attentive, and make you feel genuinely welcome. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up going back twice during my stay, and each visit was consistently excellent. If you’re in the area and love Japanese food, this is a spot you absolutely shouldn’t miss. Highly recommended!

The salmon slices were unbelievably thin — about the thickness of the tip of my chopsticks! I honestly thought the chef was trying to show off knife skills rather than serve proper portions.
The menu photo clearly shows two salmon hand rolls, but we were served only one. The manager claimed there was a disclaimer on the menu saying “subject to the actual product,” but she couldn’t even find that statement herself. This feels misleading and deceptive — customers are led to believe they’re paying for two rolls when they only receive one.
The roll itself was very average. The rice was overly soft and mushy, almost as if it had been soaked in water.
There was also basically no service at all. Even though there were only a few tables occupied, no one came to check on us or ask how the food was.
In the end, it felt like we spent dozens of dollars just to walk away feeling disappointed and misled. Definitely not worth it.

This is the best Japanese restaurant in North Cincinnati. The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are incredibly creative. The Kumamoto oysters are the best we’ve ever had. It’s definitely a great place for dates and parties.

Don’t make the same mistake I made (the first few times) by passing this place without trying it! It may look like it’s closed on the outside, the parking lot is a bit rough, but it is a gem. My service was quick and pleasant. Atmosphere felt relaxed. When my food came, I could not stop eating the Unagi don (comes with miso soup). The marinade made unagi perfectly sweet & tender. King salmon nigiri was fresh and melted in my mouth. I also had strawberry boba with mango poppers for a sweet tooth.

Update 12-31-2025
Started with the streamed gyoza – fabulous starter. Enjoyed the Black Dragon roll, Mason roll, spicy tuna roll, and Hana roll. Still the best I’ve had in the Cincinnati area! Wonderful New Year’s Eve dinner!
Excellent food! Have been here many times over the past year. Last night we got there shortly after 6 PM, and I was expecting to wait since it was Valentine’s Day. We got seated right away, but we were one of the last parties to do that. A few minutes later every seat was filled – at the bar too and a few seats for waiting, and a bunch of people standing. We always start with the steamed Gyoza dumplings because they are great. My dexterity isn’t great and they are slippery so I gave up trying to grab them with chopsticks. Rolls we ordered were Valentine’s, Black Dragon, Manhattan, Foxy Lady, and Mason. Every roll I had was excellent. Tenji is our go-to spot for sushi and I look forward to returning many times.
Update 4-26-2025
Started with some steamed Gyoza. Hot dumplings and great appetizer as always. Next was Yaki Udon with shrimp. The noodles were large and soft, the vegetables cooked perfectly such that they were still a little firm, and the sauce was yummy. Plenty of flavor but I had a bite with some soy sauce and it was good too – not overpowering. For rolls we had the Pink Lady, Black Dragon, and Summer. All were excellent and they each had a district different flavor profile. One of my favorite places and I look forward to my next visit.
Update 7-18-2025
Visited again today and enjoyed some of the best I’ve had there. I didn’t hear what my family ordered as I was on a call, but I know one of them was a Mason roll. They were all spectacular but that was the winner!
Update 10-23-2025
Still the best around!

“Don’t judge a book by its cover” definitely applies to this restaurant! I’ve driven past it for years, but have little to no experience with sushi places, so I had never stepped inside. That is, until last week – when a sushi-loving friend invited me to go with her to give it a try (it was her first time there as well). It was truly an experience to which I was delighted to be introduced! I was a little fearful of the sashimi: raw fish? ummm, that might have been a ‘no’ for me before, but not since trying the delectable sampler platter the chef created just for us! My friend also ordered a custom dragon roll and her sighs of pleasure upon consuming it were almost, well, let’s not go there other than to say she had a dreamy expression with every bite! The server was attentive and since it was lunchtime on Monday it was fairly quiet (good for friends having catch-up time). I will be going back with my husband and daughter who are both sushi fans but have also not yet discovered this treasure hidden in plain sight!

Wow!! So delicious!
They’d crush it in the Chicago suburbs- seriously! Not even the expensive sushi places by us compares! When we went, I was super sketchy because of the outside (it was an old Wendy’s and its a quiet town) but I was blown away and this seriously couldn’t have been a better ending to a perfect day
I loved everything:
• Hamachi app was my favorite
• Beef tongue flavor was tasty esp with the squeeze of lemon
• Kobe beef yakisoba (I kept stealing it from my fiancée’s plate)
Sushi was so fresh, flavors were perfect! I wish I had another day in town because I really wanted to try their otoro, wagyu bone marrow, oysters, and then of course rolls!
Waitresses were super friendly and attentive. Prices were super great. I hope you guys get a break and go visit the Renaissance Faire! Thank you

We were looking for authentic sushi, but also for more traditional entrees, and their menu ticked all the boxes. We tried 3 different sushi rolls, and one was a special roll. All were fresh and delicious. The sesame chicken was also very good. Tasted like it just came off the grill. We did takeout this time, but I would love to go back and dine in. The inside was very cozy and inviting. Looks clean and decorated nicely.
