More people absolutely need to pay Carlos a visit.

Immaculate tempura and generally have your order ready quick and fresh.

I got the Edomar Tempura plate and loved it.
I especially love how when you get the plate they include the grated daikon in your tentsuyu! The only place in the US I’ve seen even include it.

Absolutely try it out if you haven’t yet. I highly recommend any combo that includes a shishito pepper with it!

I love the tempura at Carlos Jr! I was excited to try this new addition to the food court, and I was very pleased that I did. I ordered the chicken tempura set, which was very filling. The service was great. The food took a little over 10 minutes to make, which I found quick and totally reasonable for hot, fresh tempura. The stall had a nice ambiance. I especially liked the instructions on how to best enjoy the food and Carlos’ bio. It’s a little expensive but well worth the price!

A well-known tempura restaurant from Japan. The flavors are authentic and well-balanced, and places like this are quite rare to find here. It’s the kind of tempura you’d normally have to travel to Japan to experience.

Tendon Tempura Carlos Jr sounds like a strange name for Japanese tempura but let me tell you-it was delicious!! You place your order on an app terminal at the counter along with your name then they call you when it’s ready. It’s pretty easy and you see the pictures of the food. Service is pretty quick but everything is made to order.

The tempura batter (#4 Special Tempura Plate) was light, not a bit oily, super crispy and tasted so good on the fish, shrimp, squid and fresh veggies! The dipping sauce, steamed rice, fried egg and miso soup was very nicely presented on a tray along side the main plate.

The meal was filling and satisfying. In my opinion it’s better to order the plate versions vs. the bowls as it’s presented better and you get more!

Crispy light batter, served hot. I only ordered vegetables this time like pumpkin, Japanese potato, Shisito pepper, mushroom. Would highly recommend.

When I heard news that a tendon tempura Carlos jr was opening up in Chicago, I so effin excited. Growing up in California, it was and still is my favorite tempura spot. It is hidden in the mitsuwa food court and in my expert opinion is the best food stall there. MUST follow the exact directions with saving the tempura egg for the end. the egg must be mixed with the rice at the end. I got the special tempura bowl. The bowl may look small but they put a mountain of different kinds of tempura pieces. My favorite piece of tempura is the fish and shrimp. Lightly battered and fried to perfection. There’s something in the sauce that is different from most tempura sauces. It isn’t your typical Ponzo sauce. Tendon Carlos Jr. is a must stop when in Arlington. 10/10 , 5/5

We arrived not long after opening and there wasn’t really a line, but it still took longer to get our food than it did for members of our party who chose different restaurants. I get that tempura takes time to fry, but the difference in wait time was still pretty stark.

That said, the bowl was delicious, and the side cups of ginger and spicy dipping sauce really kicked it up a notch. I don’t know if I can go back to just regular tempura sauce.

The food is excellent and well prepared. It is easy to order, though you have to be patient waiting for your food. While waiting, you can go around Mitsuwa Marketplace.

It’s great to see a good tempura shop return to the Mitsua food court. The perfect egg is worth the review. Excellent tenpura!
