This place is cool! A refurbished barn turned into a two story restaurant. Saturday night prime rib is a must, the portions are huge. You won’t leave hungry and it’s reasonably priced.
Update: things have gone down hill since this first review. The food has taken a turn for the worse, I’m not sure if they are buying lower quality ingredients or the kitchen doesn’t care but our last to visits were far less then impressive and that’s sad because the prices don’t reflect the quality. I won’t be going back.

At 6:30 on Saturday night, we stopped in with no reservation, were seated immediately. Our hosts and server were excellent and very friendly. The fried cod was cooked to perfection and the Greek vegetables were amazing!

They were wonderful about seating us without a reservation. We were traveling through town and didn’t know we needed one. The food service was fairly slow – our order went in after a large group but it was probably an hour 20 from ordering to being served. We we’re underwhelmed with the food. The people with me ordered a meal that was over potatoes that was intended to be creamy and it was like milk. The one girls chicken was overdone. The chicken in my meal was cooked perfect but lacked flavor. Very neat experience, however. Beautiful building! A few tweaks on execution and it’d be amazing!

Very good burgers. It was about $11.50 for a burger and fries but the taste was excellent. They use quality ingredients.

The service was friendly but not too fast. I was not in a hurry so it was not an issue at all … Nonetheless, it did take (from ordering to the last bite) an hour for a burger and fries on a Sunday night.

Overall, I thought the prices were a bit higher compared to other very good food available at neighboring small towns. However, if you are taking a special person out for a good time, this IS the place. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful but you MUST take the stairs to the outside patio. The view is amazing.

I’ll definitely be back!

It smelled like amazing food the second we walked in!! The barn and the setting made it worth the trip!! Just darling!! The staff was great!! They where slammed right when we got there but instead of just keeping busy waiting they sent someone to tell us why and how long we would wait. NICE TOUCH!¡. The food was great! We will be back as we r anxious to try other yummy things! Well worth the 45 min drive!

We ate there on the Saturday before Christmas with my sister and her husband. The atmosphere is what I expected after reading reviews, seeing photos etc. They put a LOT of time, effort and money to make this place into a restaurant, and that certainly paid off. I wonder if it was really wise to do all that work and have the location be in the middle of Iowa farmland. I certainly hope so, because we will be back! My wife and I had the prime rib and it was very good. My sister had the shrimp and she loved it. My bro-in-law had the flat iron steak. He wasn’t thrilled with it but said it had good flavor. Our server, Kylie, was friendly, attentive, but not over-bearing. All in all it was a very positive experience. I certainly recommend you give them a try!

My husband and I with another couple had reservations. When we got there we were seated outside what a gorgeous view for a sunset. We were served drinks right away even with them being very busy with lots of people there. We also ordered appetizers and they came out in a reasonable time too. Then we sat for about another hour just visiting not realizing it was getting dark and the outside patio was starting to empty out . When our waiter brought out our food . He apologized for our wait and informed us that we would get our drinks and a free desert to go when we left . We thought that was very nice of them . I will definitely tell my friends about this place. Thanks for a nice evening with friends.

Unfortunate….and sadly unbelievable! Was visiting from North Carolina and looking forward to trying this restaurant. Drive over an hour to get here while visiting Stone City. Only one waitress in the entire restaurant who did her best to serve all patrons. Our reservations for 10 was at opening time. After our arrival there were perhaps 4 other small groups (2-4 people) that came in within 15 minutes or so. While we were the first to arrive, we were the very last to get our food after a nearly 2 hour wait. In fact, all other groups had finished eating before the server even brought our food to the table. Food was so, so at best. My wife’s chicken was supposed to have had some type of topping…it didn’t. My sirloin was warm at best. Not one time did the waitress come back to see if everything was all right, let alone offer to refill the pitchers of water at our table even though the ice had melted by the time our food came.
Never again. Next time will eat at the winery bistro in Anamosa instead.
This is a MANAGEMENT problem, not an employee problem!
