Reviews
The best part of the tea food selection was the pretzel sandwich with prosciutto. The salad dressing was too much, maybe next time put the dressing to the side. The scones were okay, not dry. Wish there was more clotted cream to share between 2 servings. The tarts were cute but wish they had more special variety. There weren’t enough sweet pastries.
All the pastries, food and tea are probably things you haven’t had before and it was really interesting trying everything, even if i cant say i liked it all lol.
Castle looks cool and has a nice landscape
The setting at Glen Eyrie Castle is truly unbeatable—it’s absolutely beautiful. Your reservation provides exclusive access to the stunning grounds. I highly recommend bringing a change of clothes and hiking shoes to fully enjoy the property and its short trails. We even had the unforgettable privilege of seeing mountain sheep roaming freely, which was an incredible experience!
Service and Seating
The service was amazing; the staff made us feel like royalty. In the dining area, there is one particular table that is prime real estate. To snag this coveted window seat, your best bet is to book an 11:00 seating and request it specifically as part of your reservation.
The Food: Hits and Misses
The tea itself was decent, but not spectacular. It was served as a bagged tea, which was a little disappointing, as I would have preferred a steeping device with loose leaves. The rest of the food selections on the tray were okay—small, petite, and beautifully presented.
However, the scones were a huge letdown. While everything else was tiny, the scones were large, brown blobs. I suspect this was a marketing technique to give the illusion of substance or simply fill the plate. If the scones had been good, this tactic would have worked! Unfortunately, they were cold, dry, and completely tasteless. Even a supermarket like Safeway could do better.
For the price, you expect a classically trained pastry chef, and the poor quality of the scones was a major disappointment.
Overall Verdict
Overall, this is a difficult place to rate. The cost is high, and the quality of the pastries was not up to par. However, the incredible setting and service are unique and unmatched. Despite the food disappointment, the sense of privacy, exclusivity, and intimacy made it worthwhile.
I would return to Glen Eyrie, but next time it would be to visit the bookstore and café for a much more budget-friendly experience.
