Tipping should be based on service quality and remain the customer’s choice. Automatically imposing a nearly 19% charge removes that discretion and leaves a bad impression. Transparency matters, especially at this price point.
The food may be good, but hidden or forced fees significantly affect the overall experience. I hope management reconsiders how they communicate and implement this policy.
I ordered the oysters, which don’t come with cocktail sauce — they charge $1 extra if you want it. I ordered the half crab, but it looked unappealing and didn’t seem fresh, so I asked them to take it back. They suggested giving me a replacement, which I accepted, but that also didn’t taste fresh. I didn’t send it back a second time because I felt bad.
The sashimi was good, and I enjoyed it. I also had a house wine. The total bill was $104, plus an automatic service charge of $25 (I don’t know the percentage) and tax, which brought the total to $143 for a light lunch. I didn’t feel full and had to go somewhere else afterward.
Later in the evening, when I walked past again, the restaurant was still almost empty — maybe one or two groups inside — even though it was Sunday. For whatever reason, this place doesn’t seem worth it. The only thing I think is good is the Geoduck sashimi.
Even during weekend meal times, it wasn’t too crowded (later I realized there might be a reason for that).
I ordered 4 dishes in total. The geoduck was the dish I came for, and it was good, but not fully defrosted. I wasn’t expecting it to be freshly dug and sliced today, but at this price point, improper thawing feels hard to justify.
The clams were tasty, with a good broth, but no complimentary bread.
Oysters —whenever I see them on a menu, I usually order. This time they had Pacific Petite, Fat Bastard, Shigoku, and Kumamoto, all from different locations in WA. Compared with other places I’ve had oysters, these were pretty average. I had no urge to order more—wouldn’t recommend. (Disclaimer: I used to live in New England.)
Shrimp was $14 for 4 pieces, nowhere near the size or freshness you’d get at a supermarket. Wouldn’t recommend.
Overall, you could come for the geoduck, but the menu is very short—other than the geoduck, I couldn’t really find anything else interesting to order.
There’s an 18.9% mandatory service charge that isn’t based on party size. The bill came to $85 per person, and I still wasn’t full—had to grab a burger next door afterward.
Feels like it might just be targeting one-time business from tourists given the location.
Service is prompt and friendly
Food selection and creativity is limited
We love seafood. The geoduck cocktail was a passable item. The sunseeker oysters were shucked professionally without any broken shells.
Notes: Each dipping sauce cost $1. Automatic added 20% service charge on the bill. (I found out when I see the bill.)
