They say the secret to good food is love, and it’s very clear that Chef Michael of Tavolena truly loves what he does. His passion is evident the moment you walk through the door into the small-but-mighty ambiance that is Tavolena.
The food tastes authentic (and delicious), and portions are generous. You won’t leave hungry!
The service is exceptional with attentive and highly knowledgeable servers.
Chef Michael’s talent doesn’t stop in the restaurant – he makes all of his own baked goods which can be purchased during the daytime in the Tavolena Bakery & Sandwich shop next door adjoining the restaurant.
The icing on the proverbial cake is that Chef makes a point of visiting with his guests to ensure they’re fully satisfied and enjoying their experience. He even took us on a tour of the restaurant and bakery next door, sending us home with some treats from the bakery.
This is one of the most intimate, enjoyable dining experiences I’ve had in the area. I highly recommend Tavolena Ristorante.

Tavolina was absolutely incredible. Hands down one of the best dining experiences we have ever had.
Chef Michael is outstanding. Every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The pear and blue cheese pasta purses were perfectly balanced, the black truffle pizza was rich and unforgettable, and the veal parmesan was easily the best I have ever had. The gnocchi, zucchini blossoms, and meatballs were all perfection.
Even dessert, which my wife almost never eats, was amazing. The frozen torrone and almond paste cookies completely won her over. She is a true pasta expert and said this was some of the best she has ever had anywhere.

We went there the first time on the 27th of December. The service was amazing and the food was out of this world! The crab was delicious, and the butter had a certain taste but it was delicious. I couldn’t get enough. I had the Pork Spedini(sp) and my husband had the Sunday Feast. We went back with friends on the 31st of Dec and they loved it too. I only wish we had Italian like that in Indiana.
The owner/chef came to each table and introduced himself and asked how everything was.
It is very small so I would recommend reservations.

We had the best experience here for dinner! From the second we sat down, we were met with the best care. The service was very intimate and our server, Adam, was spectacular. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, gave the best recommendations, and always made sure we were taken care of by filling up our waters constantly, checking on us, chatting with us, and so much more. The food was terrific! The truffle pizza is a fantastic starter and has so much flavor. The meatballs were also amazing – so tender and smothered in that delicious red sauce. The pastas were all incredible. The bolognese stood out to me the most! Basically everything we ordered was mouth watering. The dessert was also sooo good. The almond cookies were nothing like I’ve ever had and the tarrone was special. I’ve never heard of it, but it moved me. Towards the end, Chef Michael met our table and spoke to us about our experience. Sometimes when chefs do this it feels cheesy or like they are just fishing for compliments – but not him. He just started a natural conversation and thanked us greatly for coming in. We then obviously had to compliment him and it just felt like we have known him forever.

So this is probably some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had. As a whole. The restaurant is very intimate small waitress was phenomenal. Chef Michael came out and talked to us at the table, which was wonderful. I have nothing negative to say about it at all. Except maybe it’s a shame it couldn’t be a little bigger so more people can enjoy it but that’s kind of the charm of it but it’s smaller.

We had an incredible meal at Tavolena on 2/13. The meatball appetizer is simply a must try. It was soooo flavorful. Chicken Marsala was the best I ever had. The chicken was very tender and the sauce excellent.My wife had the Chicken Francaise and she raved about it. Our third party at the table had the fish special of the night. I don’t recall exactly what it was, but she was also very pleased with it. Kristen, our waitress, was very attentive and helpful as well as knowledgeable as she answered all our questions on the menu items. The wine list is quite extensive, perhaps a bit pricey, and the wine we had was perfect for our meal.
Due to a misunderstanding in the kitchen, my order of veal Marsala came out as chicken. Kristen offered to quickly get an order of veal out, but we declined. To make good on that miscue, Michael, the owner sent out two complementary desserts. The almond cookies were exceptional, and they gave us a couple extra to take home.
