As a local of 33 years, I can say that this is by far the best bar on Main Street (and one of the best in Santa Monica/this part of the coast in general). What initially drew me in after the latest management took over was how conscientious & caring the bartenders were for a young female patron. I have had countless experiences on Main Street at other local bars where I have felt like my safety has been threatened and where the staff either simply do not care or actively encourage the disrespect of women. This is one of the few bars that I can confidently say makes an effort to be a safe space for women. I am a regular here, and tend to get quite tipsy pretty often. The bar tenders and managers have never made me feel like I was inferior or unwelcome, even when I have stayed well past my “prime”. On multiple occasions, they have even offered to order me a car to go home in. They aren’t the type to kick a potentially struggling woman to the curb, but rather to ask how they can help, which I believe is a huge deal when it comes to bars in general. There needs to be more like this. Many times, I have arrived at the Tavern after long, questionable nights elsewhere because I know that the guys (& ladies) who work there will look out for me. Bartenders Dan (manager), Sam, Jevi, Amber, Rodney, and Joe are all so fantastic.
Other great things- they have tons of power outlets all throughout the bar, which is wonderful if you like to do work on your computer (I’ve spent hours there), and affordable food and drinks that are really delicious. I cannot recommend the Tavern enough.

Casual bar with good happy hour deals. I came here to celebrate a friend passing the bar exam (bar for the bar!) and ordered some onion rings and wings. I know it’s not healthy but I love some wings at a bar; I had mine with buffalo sauce and ranch. My friend was really craving a hot dog and ordered that as well. Our server was bubbly and sweet. You pay at the bar after and the bartenders were laidback. There’s a pool table in the back and plenty of seating. It’s a Lions bar and they have deals specifically on game days as well. Credit cards accepted and metered parking available.

Great spot for happy hour! $11 beer and burger is a super great deal as well as the chicken tenders are good or the 2 sliders if you want to try a different style burger. Another thing I like is if you guess the suit under the PBR beer cap you get it for free. That’s a fun gamble. I don’t go out weekends much but this is Def a good spot for a chill mid week atmosphere with some proper grub and a beer.

I saw a negative review about this bar and felt it was important to share what actually happened that night, as I was standing only a few feet away.
Two gentlemen were speaking with the bartender. Out of nowhere, one of them reached over the bar and grabbed the bartender. The bartender did not provoke this — in fact, he handled the situation with impressive professionalism. The other man immediately pulled his friend away and urged him to leave.
Through the entire incident, the bartender stayed calm, respectful, and composed, especially considering a customer had crossed a clear boundary and put hands on him. The staff’s ability to de-escalate the situation showed me how seriously they take safety and hospitality.
This bar continues to be one of my favorites — not just for the atmosphere and drinks, but for the way the staff handles difficult situations with maturity and class.

As a Detroit Lions fan, this place is AMAZING for Lions games. The crowd is fantastic and the bar plays Detroit music (Motown, Eminem, Bob Segar…) during game commercial breaks. The servers and bartenders are always great too. Hands down my fave place to watch the game!

Airy, comfy pub with great outdoor and very open indoor space. Tasty Breakfast Outstanding burritos breakfast bowl and eggs Benedict with spare ribs. Full bar. Friendly and attentive service from Tyler. Plenty of TVs for Sports. Ask for sound. Hopping vibe for March Madness. Major upgrade from prior management. Clean and up to date, including bathrooms. We will be back.

Beware of Tavern of Main in Santa Monica!
My date and I went there tonight which is 11/26/25. We were treated from the get go horribly. I’m gay and my date was a little buzzed but nothing alarming or uncomfortable. I asked the first black bartender ( I’m black too) if he had a particular bourbon. He said no and gave me a strange look. I then asked him what was his best bourbon had. He just waved me over to the other bartender so I went to the end of the bar and asked the other bartender the same thing.
He wouldn’t give an answer but gave a list of choices in a very rude manner so my date asked for one of the choices he gave. In a very rude manner the bartender then said you don’t know your bourbons. My date tried to laugh it off but then the bartender become belligerent and started to argue with us. I could tell that neither bartender wanted to serve us and particularly wanted to get into an altercation as justification.
My date is an attorney and I didn’t want any drama so I convinced him to leave immediately. I will never go back to this place but I want all of my girlfriends and my LGBTQ community to be aware of this place.
